Right, why should anything ever be localized? Everyone should just learn every language on the planet and then it wouldn't even be necessary.

Also, an English localization already exists but it seems Yostar owns it and Catfood is trying to self-publish the Steam version so they don't have it. If they just published through Yostar, they would have an English version. Maybe they're already planning to do that in the future, I don't know.

Yes exactly you realize how much content you're missing out on by not knowing one language or another? there's always be lots of stuff that'll never get subs or any kind of translation, i'm not urging you to do anything, per se, but you might take that into account

Anything would be stay hard if you don't even attempt figuriong it out, but anyway, op seems to a bit to the other side of native english speaker judging from his profile mind you

In the end, everyone who is worrying about it but hasn't had experience with the CN ver: this doesn't really need an english translation because the only thing worth reading is the yaku list, which you could just look up anyway. The CN ver was relatively straightforward to play even without any knowledge of Chinese characters, though arsdragonfly on github added a majsoul-english-ui to the majsoul plus CN mod launcher. My main concern would be that we can share the same server with other english-language players playing through yostar's translated UI.

I do think that a proper english release on steam could help bring a lot more western players to game, but that's probably the responsibility of yostar, not catfood. Well, here's hoping it comes eventually but I am just happy to see the game hit steam in any form.

This version is an international Chinese server version operated by Catfood Studio. For some reasons, Catfood Studio cannot continue to operate this game in mainland China, so they took the method of putting the game on Steam as a countermeasure.
For the above reasons, the current Steam version only supports international Chinese servers. In addition, because the Japanese and English versions of the game are operated by YouStar, to support these two servers requires additional communication between Catfood Studio and YouStar. Generally speaking, it is unlikely that these two versions will be launched on Steam in a short time.

这个版本是由Catfood Studio运营的国际中文服务器版本。因为一些原因Catfood Studio无法在中国大陆继续运营这款游戏，所以他们采取了将游戏上架Steam的方法作为应对措施。
基于以上原因，目前Steam版本仅支持国际中文服务器。另外由于游戏的日文版和英文版是由YouStar运营的，所以要支持这两个服务器的话需要Catfood Studio和YouStar进行额外的沟通。总的来说短时间内在Steam上线这两个版本的可能性不大。

it`s a publisher thing.
this steam version is run by a chinese publisher for chinese player
the english version is run by another company
they use different servers
your old account can`t even login
you should ask the company who serve you for a steam version,good luck!

That said. As others mentioned I too believe its a licensing issue.

Either way this is a mess that is for sure.. I am hoping that a full Japanese version will pop up as well as a English one. At the very least subtitled/text for one or the other.

I know Japanese and English but sadly not enough Mandarin to have any real conversation.. and that is only spoken. I can not read the language.

Mahjong Soul has been taking off in all territories. North America even has it's own server.

Seems like a localization disaster... there are translations on the web version. It doesn't matter where your server are, just put all the localization files to both of the web and steam versions.
