you still have to register with EA to play EA games... even if they are on Steam... EA also has their own store app so you can get games directly from them...

EA account is a required account to play their software. This is how companies like ubisoft and paradox also work. They tend to have their own programs and loaders that basically is how you get into the game. Usually seperated from steam use, some games can be linked from steam. I believe the EA app now does this to show what games you own on steam now. Many people do not like this method because having multiple platforms to load games can slow down the owner's pc. It also is annoying to have multiple loaders for games, on seperate platforms.

Tell that to all the sims players. Im sure they would love to stop playing their favorite game. They basically force it on their players. I am so glad that bethesda got rid of their crap loader. Remember the Bethesda one?

I believe you need to do some modding to use it on the steam deck. I suggest asking in the community forum on how to do it. I seem other people mention how to play ea games on it. Here, you can ask on this link:

normally it works out of box but EA breaks it every so often and then proton catches up. it's not actually that hard to make it work but I wanted to make a joke.

Thanks for the answers - I just refunded the game. Didn't know that before buying it. Wasn't so easy deleting it, by the way. And now my scanner goes funny. Surprise.

In the future take a look on the store page before buying. Games that need 3rd party clients/accounts have to mention it on the feature list.

It's a pity because I love these three games and you will miss out on a great story for a very small inconvenience. I have seldom come across games this enjoyable since then. I am playing all the three games again and I am reliving all the great story and fun I had.

Nowadays I feel games are not made with a great emphasis on the choices and characters. I think the varied characters in this series is one of its strongest assets. I wish you had not hastily refunded. I think if you had played it you would love the series as much as I do. Great games are few and far between.

Short answer. Because they're EA and their gits!

You'll be forced to download and run the abomination of the EA app even if you play it on Steam, because EA are the publishers and they need to keep their tags on it.

Small price to pay though for a superb series.
