Tell that to all the sims players. Im sure they would love to stop playing their favorite game. They basically force it on their players. I am so glad that bethesda got rid of their crap loader. Remember the Bethesda one?
I believe you need to do some modding to use it on the steam deck. I suggest asking in the community forum on how to do it. I seem other people mention how to play ea games on it. Here, you can ask on this link:

In the future take a look on the store page before buying. Games that need 3rd party clients/accounts have to mention it on the feature list.

Nowadays I feel games are not made with a great emphasis on the choices and characters. I think the varied characters in this series is one of its strongest assets. I wish you had not hastily refunded. I think if you had played it you would love the series as much as I do. Great games are few and far between.
You'll be forced to download and run the abomination of the EA app even if you play it on Steam, because EA are the publishers and they need to keep their tags on it.
Small price to pay though for a superb series.
