Potato computer benchmarks?
So I got this game for Christmas, I have a key to redeem it, the problem is that my PC is old. Like, really old. And it doesn't meet the minimum requirements to play the game. I don't have the money to upgrade my equipment yet, but I was wondering if people knew if it was still possible to run on even less powerful hardware than the provided minimum specs? Or are the minimum specs provided REALLY the hard minimum and anything less than them will set my computer on fire?

Well, I did some checking around, and it turns out it isn't actually nearly as far behind the system requirements as I thought it was - I misread the comparison site as saying the required graphics card was two times as powerful as the one I had, when it was actually saying the one I had was twice as powerful as the minimum spec one lol

I5 6400 2.7ghz
8 gb ram
Nvidia gtx 1060 3gb

those are the specs I'm running on, the graphics card is fine, the ram is barely fine, and the processor seems more or less equivalent? So it should be okay?

Why not give it a shot and see? The proof of the pudding is in the eating, right? :steamhappy:

yeah, I'm probably going to, I was just making sure it wasn't a case of "I turn it on and it doesn't work, and now I can't even give the key to a friend who CAN run it" lol
still, it seems like it probably should be okay, so thanks

Ah, didn't realize you were considering that as a possibility. Anyhow it's easy for me to say, jump right in, the water's fine when I'm on the beach, right? ;-) Anyhow hope it works out for ya! :-)

thanks! I haven't actually played mass effect yet - anything I should know going in, or just roll with it?

My view is, RPGs are best approached without too much info. If you like the game, you're going to be replaying it multiple times: I know that's true for me anyhow.

But none of your replays will have the sense of wonder and adventure that you get your first time, so although there's tons I could say, I prefer to encourage you to close your eyes and go! :steamhappy:
You say your system is old... does it have Windows 10, at least? That is a hard requirement for the game. Everything else looks fine. You may not be able to play it maxed out but I was able to before upgrading form a 1070 Ti and i5-8800.

It looks like you might at least meet minimum requirements. Something like Can You Run It can help you see if a game will work on your computer.

Dude I played this game on a GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB of RAM and i3 8100 processor. Ran fine for me.
*Just don't use any mods
