It's not just you. It's broken for most people. Don't waste your time with any of the proposed boilerplate busywork, like running the game with administrator permissions or in a compatibility mode. Or installing / reinstalling anything / clearing your save files.
The game has been unplayable because of the Windows update about 2-3 months ago. Here's the thing though: it is against terms of service for a publisher to be selling a broken product on the Steam store front. There's simply no way EA is unaware of the issue: if there's a sharp drop in the daily played hours, no way a data-oriented corporation would not see it in their detailed reports. They must know.

Whether Steam knows, I have no idea. So let's make sure.

Please report the game as "Broken" by clicking on the "Report" button (flag icon) in the right column. Eventually, if enough people complain, something will be done about this: either the game will be finally fixed, OR it will be taken off the storefront, preventing poor souls from being duped into buying a dud.

We can't just sit here, magically expecting a solution to materialise itself. The more people take LITERALLY A MINUTE to report the issue (make sure you describe exactly what it is: the game crashes instantly and is unable to launch any more, making the product unplayable), the more likelihood we'll all be back burning rubber in Seacrest County!

Good for you. I'd suggest buying a lottery ticket, to fully take advantage of your unprecedented luck. And when you win big, you can buy the remaining 99% of players for whom the game USED TO WORK, BUT NOW IT DOESN'T, the same computer as yours. Problem solved.

Until then, enjoy multiplayer with a very diminished player base.

"Works for me" is not helpful at all.

I am running into this issue as well. I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11 and hadn't played NFSHP in a while. Pretends to load goes black for about 3 seconds and then returns to the desktop. I uninstalled, reinstalled tried admin stuff and all that, still doesn't work. I am also upset that when I loaded it onto my laptop, it changed my achievement level down so I had to start over 2/3 of the way even though I already completed the events.
I just tried it on my laptop and it doesn't load at all. Dealing with Tech support right now. I"ll update if I get a resolve.

How do you report the game and to who? It still won't load in Steam or the EA App. I reinstalled both as the tech support suggested and now it just messed up my other games! I have to redownload all my games.

Just open the store page of game and click on flag. Done

I had this issue myself and managed to resolve it.

When I first installed the game I did not have the EA app installed. The game would then throw this exact same issue at me. I tried all of the usual steps to sort the issue out and nothing appeared to work.

For me to get the game working I had to ensure that the EA app was running and signed into when downloading and first running the game. When first downloading from steam there is no notification that the app needs to be logged into before downloading and clicking the play button on first run.

I am wondering if this will be helpful for those who are still having issues with the game.
