If the demand is high enough we can try looking into it, though no promises! We do love our linux players in Slime-san, it’s just difficult upkeep. Let’s see!

Ok, if you all end up needing some help testing if you do decide, would be happy to help. Good luck with the game

The first level runs nicely using Proton on linux, controller recognized no problems. But once the city level loads the game becomes incredibly slow, like a few frames per second slideshow. I'm not sure what's happening.

So it would be lovely to have a native linux version, the game oozes with style and is fun. Keep up the great work!

The demand is here, any positive news for Linux?

If you build it against the "Steam Linux Runtime" you don't have to take into account that every distro has different versions of packages.

BTW. thanks to the proprietary Media Foundation codecs being used the in-game tutorial videos (through the menu) do not play.

I’ve heard the game runs well with Proton?

Running yes, but as I said because the proprietary Media Foundation codecs are in use the intro video and tutorial videos do not play.

Also every Linux user prefers native over Proton. A native Linux version also ensures performance tweaking and bug fixing for the developer that is otherwise not possible through Proton.

Claiming "every" Linux user would prefer native builds is quite a statement, and places an unreasonable amount of burden on smaller scale developers to be expected to push out Linux ports just for a 1-2% market share of Steam users. And just because a game has a native Linux build doesn't mean it's going to be without problems. I have come across cases where running a game through Proton provides better performance than official native builds. Many games run on parity with Windows through Proton and is expected to improve once the Steam Deck comes out and more users begin to have a Linux-based operating system out of the box and it becomes more lucrative for games to "just work" on Proton.

It is worth mentioning using GloriousEggroll's Proton build ( https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom ) allows for playback of proprietary Windows codecs so users that see this thread won't just assume they're out of luck on Proton currently.

And this is where I unfollow before people argue. I prefer games with some official support.

If you like being treated as a doormat and second or even third class customer so be it.
Linux builds with ♥♥♥♥♥ performance is a result of abandoning and don't giving a ♥♥♥♥ from developers, Proton is and should be treated as a tool when nothing else works, basically an emergency solution. Proton introduces more bugs, makes the games more resource hungry, might not work day one, don't have official support and cant be optimized. Your point of view is basically "don't bother with Linux and install Windows for gaming" and that doesn't help anyone and doesn't help moving forward making Linux a gaming option when it gets ignored right from the beginning, except from a third party company that has nothing to do with those games and CANT GUARANTEE anything.

And GloriousEggrolls Proton can be totally ignored because its not official and people that just wanna play games (there are many newcomers like this with the Steam Deck) don't benefit from changes that UNOFFICIAL version provides.

Proton support can be good for a temporary fix. But there are often times where game updates will break Proton compatibility. Let alone cut-scenes' that will not work.
Which is why a native Linux build is far better.

Most Linux gamers use an Ubuntu or Arch based Linux. So maintenance for Game dev's should be manageable this way.
Linux gamers don't expect flawless games, we try to help to make them work.
