If you end your combo with something like a Brute burst counter, not as a counter, but as an attack, your ki will be regenerating during the punch. If you end your combo with a youkai skill, especially one that has a longer animation, you will regen a ton of key during that time.
Like in that clip of mine that I posted, I was attacking for like 45 seconds straight without a pause.
Plus you have other options to conserve ki, like if you use a bow or a rifle to headshot a human, they will immediately crumple to the ground, and you can run up and land a finisher like attack on them for massive damage, and most humans will die instantly to this.
It you shoot off a Yokai's horn, they will also lose a massive amount of ki.
For humans, they have no super armor, so you can just use them as punching bags.
And most Yokai have super armor, but after you break their ki, they are also punching bags until it recovers, or you break their second ki bar and get to land a riposte. You just learn their attack patterns an beat the tar out of them while avoiding their dangerous hits until you break their ki. And keep in mind, things like burst counters will cancel almost any other animation you are in.
So if you are beating on them, then see an "OH CRAP" attack coming, you can use Feral to cancel your animation and super dodge away. Phantom will let you go into an immediate block. Brute will punch them and maybe interrupt them.
That means you can be aggressive while also remaining safe if they pull out a big move. Burst counters are for more than just counters. Like one cheese method was spamming elemental feathers. They activate their damage very quickly, but they have a super long recovery animation. However, you could rapidly spam them by using one, then cancelling the recovery animation with a phantom burst counter, then immediately using another feather.

I do have to tell some of you this game isn't as difficult and "nuisanced" as you all think, maybe compared to "souls like" but MVC has had infinite loop combo's since day 1, It's been many years but the last Tekken i played had a timed 14 hit combo and DFO etc... basically the same..
I'd honestly would love to enjoy this game as much as some of you.. Would give me something to do now I gotta find something new :D
Same story; different game:

Every claim you have made has been thoroughly debunked. Every issue you raised has had a solution presented. Yet, you still refuse to accept that the fault lies with yourself. You have to make up any excuse as a scapegoat, lest you admit that you are not as good as you think you are.
And the game is as nuanced as you want it to be, and the combat has so much flexibility, that any number of styles are perfectly valid, so that anyone willing to learn can find a style that suites themselves:

personally for me i like nioh2 way more than elden ring but it took a while.
Heck, i had to reach dream of the demon before nioh2 started to feel as "hard" as elden ring, yes i think nioh2 is 70/% easier than elden ring up until you reach "Dream of the demon", after that nioh2 gets harder ^^
Enemies hits harder and more hp obviously.. But enemies also change burst counter pattern and gain additional attacks.
Besides, i also started with fists and i LOVE them.
Its as OP said, they consume alot of KI/stamina but thats only until you actually start lvling enough ki and ki regen and combine the right stats on gear, soul cores and soul guardians.
It was a hard weapon to start with but now when im in dream of the demon, its godlike!
From what i take from this is that OP have not even beat the first difficulty and already complaining the game is what? too hard? or have to use burst counter too much? and not enough skills? Im not quite sure...
You get more skills the more you use a weapon
A lvl 1 weapon vs a lvl 50 weapon is so different.
Ofc if you dont lvl up a weapon enough you will find it boring bcoz not enough skills.
And you also find that problem when you keep switching weapons 24/7 so you barely even get skill points.
Anyway, from what i get is that a Souls like game is not for OP.
I don't believe that "timed 15 hit combo" string in Tekken is a viable move in high tier competitive play. At least not in Tekken 7 and prior entries, but maybe in Tekken 8 since the meta has changed drastically. Maybe like the first two jabs if they are the 1, 2 notation and or are hit confirm-able. Also, MVC is a 2D fighter by capcom so that is an apples to oranges comparison. Plus, the "combo loops" in those particular games are more classified as "juggles." That mechanic does not exist in this game. Although, there are good players that can re-emulate that feel with attacks like retrograde flow or using guardian spirit talismans with genbu or hyobishin.
This game's combo system is more akin to dead or alive series or 3D ninja gaiden if you have played any of the older Team Ninja games.
It's funny you bring up Tekken though, the developer of dead or alive was not a fan of that game's mechanics. Myself however, enjoys me some Tekken juggling goodness. I don't like the newest one though.
If you do like the idea of "juggling" or "air combos" then perhaps something like Devil May Cry V would be something that would interest you. Since with a mechanic like that, that would make you more safe and less prone to being attacked from behind.
The design philosophy in Team ninja games back then was to have multiple enemies gang up on you relentlessly... Seriously. Go try the Ninja Gaiden Master collection. You'll probably cry. I know I did. I still am.
As far as "nuance" goes... I don't think that's a fair claim to make against this game. Especially if you haven't explored most of the game's features. However, judging by your assessments, claims, and reception of the game, it seems likely you won't proceed further and have solidified your stance on said game. Hopefully you will revisit this gem one day with a fresh open mind and different approach.
Good luck on your endeavors.
Also imo mastering Flux 2, where you have to stance cancel twice, is key to keeping high stamina. So for example if you are combo-ing an enemy in low stance and want the most stamina gain but want to end in midstance, you need to slide your finger from high stance to mid to get back the most meter. The same if you are in high stance but want to end up in low stance you need to flux cancel from mid and end in low to get most stamina back. Also ki pulsuing right when the bar gets filled gives the most ki back.
If you get this technique down and if you manage your ki properly you will rarely ever run out of Ki, unless you miss a cancel, make a mistake, or your flow is thrown off by an enemy. I;m not super advanced at this game like others but even I know when I end up out of ki a lot its is usually my fault for bad ki pulse timing, or simply muscel memory lacking with certain cancels.
Nioh 2 is so fun because the more skill and technique you master the more freedom you have with its gameplay systems. If you don't have the patience to learn those techniques and get better at the game, if will feel a lot more slow and restrictive then it actually is especially once you get into end game difficulties where enemies are super buffed with health and attack power.
Imo if you want a more simpler, but also really fun nioh like experience where player aggression is front and center, I would recommend you give Wo Long a shot.
That's what i figured. And ayo, that pressure plate meme LMAOOOO
But somehow you think Sekiro, aka press L1 to win, has the best combat ever? What?
"The games touted as having the best combat but I just can't feel it."
It's easily up there among the best yeah, easily on the top 5, seriously have no idea what do you expect or want out of this game.
You can play this like a "souls-like", you can craft tons of builds if you are into it, use magic, ninjutsu, play mostly stealth, you can play this almost like a DMC game, just watch the insane things top players can do (Xelod, PooferLlama, White Goat, Black Boss, Kagerasimaru, Last to Load/Sacred Force, XLH Gladiator, Phoebus Play, MutenRoshi, etc) if you don't believe me...
Don't know how far you are in the game, but admittedly the beginning F'ing sucks, you lack passive and active skills, controls and combat take a while to get used to.. (I think that's because it's meant to be played several times, just like Ninja Gaiden, DMC, etc). But when you unlock all essential things, its combat opens up and offers almost infinite possibilities and tons of playstyles! You have several cancel techniques, tons of parries/deflect skills, tons of cool weapons to choose, co-op is hella fun, but again, it may or not be for you, only you can say.
Sekiro was an amazing game because it was 100% on the player if they lose.. It's more of a rhythm game tbh
The issue with Noih 2 actually has nothing to do with what people stated.. It has it's own issues.. I'm using a mouse and Keyboard and the keybind for stances automatically Ki Pulse and not count the flex.. You basically have to press an extra key to flex 2...
Yet even still the game doesn't do anything amazing for me. The games is the same over and over... Archer impact, Stomp, kick cycle, spinning kick, drop, sunrise.. Flux 2 if possible or Soul skill for regen and repeat... There is very little difference in any fight in this entire game.. Dodge / combo into punish and repeat.. Evasion cancel into the next mob, Dodge / combo into punish and repeat...
Weirdly most souls I suppose are the same but for some reason I feel it way more in Nioh2 then say Elden Ring.. Probably because the maps are really linear and basically the same over and over.. Tbh it's the same with the enemies.. Repeated throughout the Linear paths.
I do agree it's gotten better as the clans etc... have opened up but only a little.
Dont force yourself if the game doesnt click. Play something what is more fun to you.
In my experience, nioh 2 is more like using the single optimal skill for a given enemy type. e.g. versus human, I use a single skill on odachi, then another with zero ki. Two button gameplay. Don't dodge if you don't need to. Why losing time dodging, when you can take the hit with your amrita regen? And so on.
That's why there's no difference in your point of view. Each time I fight a boss, I try different things like, can I get one more hit here and there, or can I take this hit instead of losing time dodging? Can I get confusion and another damage buff at the same time? What happens if I don't move? What happens if I just turn around the boss instead of dodging? How can I avoid the grab from this boss?
If you play with fists, you have the big combo with the horrible hit box. Any normal human would feel good when he manage to do a perfect "beyond infinity" on a zero ki boss, because you need to train a little bit, try, fail, then succeed.
Well, anyway, have fun in whatever you like.
It's literally the same in Nioh, the way you word it clearly indicates that you still haven't mastered even the basics of the combat and how to engage its enemies properly (which is completely normal, Nioh is absurdly complex and deep and it doesn't help that people tend to approach it like a "souls-like", which makes things way harder than they should. I can relate, been there, I jumped to Nioh straight after binge-playing souls games/Bloodborne, as well as Code Vein, etc.). There are tons of great players on Twitch and Youtube who can easily clear the Depths of the Underworld (in which you fight 3 bosses in a row) with max stone of penance level, while having only 1 HP (they do that to activate the critical state passive boosts).
I literally rage quit and uninstalled Nioh 1 half-way through the base game, it felt so unfair, boring, dull (because again I was playing it like a souls game). But after watching experienced players play it and dive deeper into its mechanics, I gave it another shot and here I am, with 1000's of hours happily spent in each game and craving for more Nioh.
In comparison, I could only put 80 or so hours into Elden Ring despite it being so massive cuz, mechanically, it's 95% the same boring, stale gameplay since Demon's. Just wait for openings, hit a few times, dodge stuff, backstab stuff, pray that the camera doesn't screw you, rinse and repeat. Not to mention that with each iteration, From tries to make up for their shallow gameplay and extremely forgiving dodges with more and more BS, so the fights are getting too annoying and non-enjoyable (I've watched streams of ER's DLC, good gosh, what a sh*tshow).
"The issue with Noih 2 actually has nothing to do with what people stated.. It has it's own issues.. I'm using a mouse and Keyboard and the keybind for stances automatically Ki Pulse and not count the flex.. You basically have to press an extra key to flex 2..."
No idea why you're playing an aRPG game with KB/M, especially one made by a Japanese company lol they really suck at porting their games to PC, I'm sorry but you'd better grab a gamepad in order to fully enjoy this game.
"Yet even still the game doesn't do anything amazing for me. The games is the same over and over... Archer impact, Stomp, kick cycle, spinning kick, drop, sunrise.. Flux 2 if possible or Soul skill for regen and repeat..."
Dude I legit don't know what to say. You enjoy one-trick pony games such as Sekiro but somehow finds Nioh 2 too repetitive? This almost feels like a troll post or just another salty reaction by someone who thinks this is another souls game and refuses to play it like its own beast, Nioh is closer to NG, Onimusha and DMC than it is to souls games, you either come to terms with that or just drop the game altogether.
"There is very little difference in any fight in this entire game.. Dodge / combo into punish and repeat.. Evasion cancel into the next mob, Dodge / combo into punish and repeat..."
Unlike pressing L1 99% of the time, and sometimes jumping, grappling and performing a boring and easy mikiri counter? Or spamming firecrackers? I doubt the real issue here is with the depth of the combat, rather, it clearly stems from you sucking at the game and not using even 10% of its mechanics.
"Weirdly most souls I suppose are the same but for some reason I feel it way more in Nioh2 then say Elden Ring.. Probably because the maps are really linear and basically the same over and over.. Tbh it's the same with the enemies.. Repeated throughout the Linear paths."
Yes the maps are small and ordinary, what does that have to do with the combat itself though? Again comparing it to From games when Nioh is a mission-based game meant to be replayed countless times, similarly to NG, DMC, Monster Hunter.. Go play a From game or an actual souls-like cuz you clearly want that, Nioh isn't for you.
