Some solo missions are like fighting certain characters in the game. Consider them like sparring sessions. Majority of the missions are co op. The solo missions are few so don't fret on those.
There are two types of ways how co op works.
You collect this cups through the game and you get plenty on them from finishing levels and opening chests etc. To have someone join your game, you need to rest at an altar and place the cup down. You can place up to 2. If anyone is searching for a random game, that person would join you.
You also have the option to set up a password and share it with friends and they can join you that way.
There is another method that players can drop down a sword or grave summons. Not in the game so I forget what's it called. A person's character that they created will join you. It's basically a controlled AI partner. You have the option to place summons for others to use your character. Whatever your summons gets for aiding others will be then available in the hut.
Definitely worth getting and believe it's on sale for the Winter Sale.
