I could remember wrong, but I think that MD is lighter than Veteran Armor while being an Heavy Armour.
its a pretty good armor set, but mainly because you can also get graces for it at some point (random sets that appear on armor/weapons that have no predefined set)
if you are on ng or ng+ getting a set isn't important, but i would highly recommend going for a proper set eventually as you progress in difficulty
i feel like it is harder to keep a defense oriented armor set relevant for ng+ cycles than it is for an offensive build/set at least.
depends on how much time you are willing to put in in each ng+ cycle but if you are fine going glass cannon its easier to just soul match your weapons to match the relevant level and +level versus doing that for every single piece of your armor so that your defense stat isnt completely outclassed by the enemies you're fighting
im not 100% sure if u use spear, but warrior of the east is easily farmable since there is a 1v1 duel mission with him in region 3 i think
getting 6 pieces (or 5 with yasakani magatama) with benzaiten's grace grants "versatility" which is a very big damage boost (up to 60% multiplicative) if you can comfortably use many different active skills. '
seems to be the most substantial buff from the new graces in dotd and should stay useful way past that but you might need to pray a lot for it to drop lol
in the difficulties after dotd there are a lot more good general purpose sets that arent limited to specific weapon types which you will likely enjoy more than the existing spear sets so probably fine to just settle for whatever works for now
generally speaking, purity is considered good against yokai while corruption is considered good against humans but honestly it isn't that hard to apply purity on humans and corruption on yokai, especially as you improve your build for it (some bosses are resistant to it, but i don't think anything is outright immune ? unlike the standard elements at least)
purity is a lot easier to keep up imo, a purity weapon also allows you to ki pulse while blocking which is a nice qol too, and it just works out of the box without having to "charge" your weapon like corruption does
corruption has higher dps as it is gets an actual damage buff but requires a lot more investment (getting sentience charge is annoying) and you need to "awaken" (fill up a bar under your weapon icon) to actually get the full corruption buff
for weapon types i think both purity options are good (torch spear or great holly spear)
if you reach the point where you are minmaxing your build torch spear is slightly better as it doesnt have an extra innate bonus so you can choose yourself what stat to put there
for corruption i think both spears (bonepile spear and koroka spear) aren't that great lol since their innate bonuses kinda suck, but if i had to pick i would go for koroka spear.
you can always find a random drop with innate corruption (or purity) on a weapon that doesn't normally have it but incredibly rare
tldr, probably just get torch spear in ng+ or try to pick up great holly spear when doing the final DLC
purity is easy to use and should provide the most immediate benefits without feeling like you have to farm for extremely specific rolls
