And you don't have meet the recommended level for the mission. 👍🏽
Side missions sometimes give important goodies like extra jutsu skill points, guardian spirits, and in certain duels’ cases you can even get special attacks, so they’re still worth doing.
you're not SUPPOSED to do side missions if you don't want to, you could even skip em all but you'll be missing out on some cool spirits etc.
One exception could be "against everyone", last side mission on last dlc, this is brutal and really unforgiving marathon of many bosses and tough enemies combined all together that you must defeat one by one
On ng+ and beyond situation are much better, you could play only mission that you like and never touched you don't
As for me I endlessly hate "moonlight prayer" and "Okuni searching" because extremely useless companion that are 24/7 trying to do suicide so I never played this mission on any ng+
