How Did You Clear "The Chinese Bellflower Dagger?"
I never rage at games but I spent an hour yelling at this dude last night as he steamrolled me over and over again. He's fast, he has some brutal attacks that can't be interrupted, he can instantly follow up big physical attacks with magic spells, and I had a hard time getting him to run out of ki. I was the recommended level 65 (sword user) and I've been clearing the rest of the missions with relative ease, though, so I knew there had to be a trick. I tried all my stylish moves, but he would just punish me any time I tried to do anything cool. In the end, here's what worked for me:

  1. Start off the fight with an honorable gunshot wound to the head to knock him over while he's standing there. Run over and stab him while he's down.
  2. Constantly move to your right, his left, and just hit him with normal attacks, dodging when necessary, nothing fancy. He will cut you to ribbons if you go left but didn't seem to understand how to deal with me if I went right. This felt cheesy, but it worked after two tries (after failing countless times the previous hour I played).

Some other stuff that helped was using a few spirit stones before starting to get my amrita gauge full, and using a tengu soul core helped me avoid some attacks while doing a great job of knocking out his ki for some free grapple damage. These were nice and kept my palms from getting too sweaty, but dodging right was really the secret ingredient for me.

What sorts of things did you do to win?

clay bells

there's nothing that tells you this but you can summon 3 cats at a time and just grapple spam while they do a ton of ki damage

I use the switchglaive, which scales with constitution and magic, so I could survive plenty of hits with decent HP and steel/protection talismans. Nothing really else to say, broke his guard a few times, figured out when some of the openings were and had luck with his hyperarmor not activating many times.

On the higher difficulties I buff my weapon with lightning and just spam Arc of chaos until he dies.

I waited until I completed the entire game and all sub missions then went back and did it when I was overleveled lol, hes too annoying to deal with otherwise for me

Spammed him to death with fists. If you're actively up on him all the time, he barely uses his magic, didn't even buff himself once for me.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, and also mandatory headshot at the start.

I tried this with two different approaches.

As a novice onmyo mage. I forget which element he is resistant to, but I decided to divine branch out, change to the two elements he wasn't resisting, load up on shikigami, and just let him walk on those until he died.

And then as a level sync'd spear, I leaned on high stance, but due to how fast he moved, could not effectively catch him with active skills. I ended up mostly doing the two quick attacks and a ki pulse, sometimes moving toward him briefly before doing it. Trying to avoid his counter and doing the roll if he tires to do that horizontal blade wave attack. I think if I had made a hybrid onmyo / spear build, could have used Steel and -Stop talismans with Protection to reduce the damage received.

The switch glaive high stance heavy attack has good range and tracks well, and for whatever reason the AI struggles to block against it. I largely did that at mid range, switched to low or mid stance and dodged away like a lunatic, baited out a spell or two, rinse and repeat. It wasn't elegant but it got the job done.

I shot whole ammo storage of my hand cannon, cause he really wants to get into mid way between you and him for some reason before casting. Hell, if i had exploding ammo, got him to 1/4 HP.

And then i just used corrupted sword, apply corruption as fast as i could, got at least one burst counter, and mowed him down.

Took few tries anyway, but that's how it worked for me.

I used my switchglaive combined with onmyo magic.

I buffed my character as much as possible and I didn't use any of the offensive spells. I opened the fight with a cannon shot to his head to inmediately deal a large amount of damage to him. After that I simply tried to use hit and run tactics to wear him down and once I saw a window of opportunity I tried to burst him down. Once I understood his moveset he went down relatively quickly.

It took me 7 tries to defeat him and I was only 2 levels above the recommended level for the mission. You can also save the mission for later if you find the boss fight to be too difficult as he will probably be really easy if you outlevel him.

Weapon parries, quick headshots with the bow, wear down his ki with low stance, throw out some spells and caltrops to make it slightly easier.

You can get some dirty headshots when the opponent trips on a caltrop which opens up their guard for a split second. A final blow combo can take off 40%+ of an opponents life bar if everything connects.

I've been putting nearly all my points into heart so my sword hits hard. I do use some spells, but should I start funneling more points into onmyo? Pretty much every stat is under 10 except heart, which is nearing 50. Ha!

it's not hard if you stay close to him, he won't cast spells this way. The only thing left to do then is to keep pressure him with hits. Make use of flux so you always have some ki for dodging and to keep pressure on him.

My preparation was the following:

craft a full nanbam set which has elemental damage resistance core stat in all the pieces
temper each piece of the set with -% projectile damage
with this you can manage to mitigate all his magic attacks

pop some sacred water whenever you can. remember that you can heal at close range, so if you can don't back to much just to heal otherwise he start casting spells again

I got good.

Did it when it appeared. Tonfa made short work of him, no spells, no gimmicks, just a good ole fashioned beat down =P.
Neckwhiskers Feb 16, 2021 @ 3:41pm
Did another main mission and the other side missions first to get some more levels and better gear. Made it a ton easier, also stay close to him as much as possible.

I ground him into dust spamming Axe strong attack over and over, empowered by a Barrier Talisman. But really, it boiled down to

But what does "getting good" truly mean to Nigrescence? Did you run in wearing naught but your skivvies and fist him to death with a bare-handed build? Did you only use Haze II? Did you respec and put all your points into luck? Did you only throw stones?
