On the higher difficulties I buff my weapon with lightning and just spam Arc of chaos until he dies.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, and also mandatory headshot at the start.
As a novice onmyo mage. I forget which element he is resistant to, but I decided to divine branch out, change to the two elements he wasn't resisting, load up on shikigami, and just let him walk on those until he died.
And then as a level sync'd spear, I leaned on high stance, but due to how fast he moved, could not effectively catch him with active skills. I ended up mostly doing the two quick attacks and a ki pulse, sometimes moving toward him briefly before doing it. Trying to avoid his counter and doing the roll if he tires to do that horizontal blade wave attack. I think if I had made a hybrid onmyo / spear build, could have used Steel and -Stop talismans with Protection to reduce the damage received.
And then i just used corrupted sword, apply corruption as fast as i could, got at least one burst counter, and mowed him down.
Took few tries anyway, but that's how it worked for me.
I buffed my character as much as possible and I didn't use any of the offensive spells. I opened the fight with a cannon shot to his head to inmediately deal a large amount of damage to him. After that I simply tried to use hit and run tactics to wear him down and once I saw a window of opportunity I tried to burst him down. Once I understood his moveset he went down relatively quickly.
It took me 7 tries to defeat him and I was only 2 levels above the recommended level for the mission. You can also save the mission for later if you find the boss fight to be too difficult as he will probably be really easy if you outlevel him.
You can get some dirty headshots when the opponent trips on a caltrop which opens up their guard for a split second. A final blow combo can take off 40%+ of an opponents life bar if everything connects.
My preparation was the following:
craft a full nanbam set which has elemental damage resistance core stat in all the pieces
temper each piece of the set with -% projectile damage
with this you can manage to mitigate all his magic attacks
pop some sacred water whenever you can. remember that you can heal at close range, so if you can don't back to much just to heal otherwise he start casting spells again
But what does "getting good" truly mean to Nigrescence? Did you run in wearing naught but your skivvies and fist him to death with a bare-handed build? Did you only use Haze II? Did you respec and put all your points into luck? Did you only throw stones?
