Am I Missing Something or Does Most Magic Suck?
All of these super niche sounding utility talismans sound like a waste of points. Pleiades, diviniation, rejuvenation, oasis, and so on... there are a lot.

Are there any "hidden gems" I'm overlooking? If so, which ones?

I carry rejuvenation because I find using elixirs pathetic and it helps a bit with the regen on top of/instead of extraction. Probably great for coop as well.

Most "gems" probably aren't really hidden but hard to tell if we don't know what you consider meta.

I dunno just... worth the points invested? Efficient, or powerful, or has an effect that's strong and not found easily anywhere else?

Gust sounded cool but I just kill things fast instead. Cutting Blast sounded cool but the damage seemed abysmal.

Stuff like Blessed Bolt can be useful but most often it isn't, pretty middling.

Things like the lightning ninja jutsu are great, somewhat tracks, nice damage. I like the passives and the elemental shots in magic, too.

Just to give you an idea of how I rate things.

Elixirs are bae. :d

Asking because I started to find myself with points but nothing good to invest them in. Extra sacred water and a buncha niche talismans and whatever, hard to use booby traps and stuff... meh.

Yes you sure are (in some cases). Oasis and rejuvenation are great for early game healing to conserve elixirs. Divination and Pleiades are not as useful however. Pleiades being somewhat useful for getting into yokai shift which is not as useful in nioh 2. Extraction, barrier, steel, carnage, and arch yokai are all popular late game buffs for maximizing combat potential. Barrier in particular can carry through the whole game with its negation of yokai pools. Extraction with heal on amrita gain can keep you fully healed for the whole fight. Sloth makes most enemies very easy to fight but be careful on becoming overly reliant on it. Lifeseal talisman is situationally good against tough human bosses as well.

Go for the buffs on the left tree first and maybe the elemental effects you can add to your weapon. You can go for the elemental shots but those generally require a build with unlimited onmyo to be useful.

Okay, thx!

I'm around lvl 100.

I found the healing too weak for it to be worth it (I'm also not early game any more). I've elixirs stocked up, will probably use those instead. But I might reconsider it.

Yokai Shift takes ages to get into anyway, I found I can't really use it often, maybe once per boss fight for finishing them off and VERY rarely in a normal fight to save myself.

Hm, late game buffs... okay, I don't think I'm late game yet, lol. Was looking at carnage but didn't think I needed it, the rest felt kinda fiddly.

Barrier I know is decent but I found I can do without it. I'd rather equip more shooty things.

Extraction sounds okay, I might check it out.

I know about Sloth but I avoid using it this time around. I had enough fun with it in Nioh 1.

I did get Lifeseal and used it once to make an annoying human boss easier. So I got that, yay.

I maxed out all the elemental shots and got all the enchants. And most other passives (at least the ones that don't have 3-4 talismans as prerequesites).

Idk how strong the effect Pleiades has on amrita absorption. It's possible that with both extraction and Pleiades you can reliably get it during fights. I usually sit on shift myself and use it only to save myself during mistakes.

Steel talismans are great if you aren't going light armor so I wouldn't overlook them. You could also go guardian spirit talisman if you have free points from your shooting spells. I have no slots for such things due to all the buffs I run.

Ah, I see. I run light-ish armor, B agility.

Thx!

lots of magic are good , but magic require some investment too.

in the buff department all the elemental buff can greatly improve a build base on 1 element ( even purity )
the protective talisment is really good and later on the resist elemental one too
barrier is super good it let you clear yokai realm just by touching them and help you a lot with KI recovery
steel is usefull for light and medium armor wearer

reju is good for long fight so its healing you while you dodge/block

all the elemental shot are great for proc status effect and confusion , they can deal OK damage if you invest in magic power

the other spell imo are very specific to build or situational

Rejuvenation Talismans heal you even during grabs. It's funny to watch a boss grab you just to get back up like nothing happened.

Barrier is good for hatchets and high ki usage builds. It is also good for any builds that use Yokai pools for buffs.

Pleiades can be used for amrita buff builds and transformations.

Divination is good for basically assassins. That is about it unless you are really poor or just looking for certain things specifically.

Oasis is good for basically tanking and standing in one spot. It's pretty bad though.

Sanctity was one I was going to assume you were going to bring up, which abuses Ominous pact unless it was 'fixed'.

Unless you are putting points into courage and/or magic, the buffs are pretty bad at lasting long enough to be beneficial.

the exploit about Ominous is supposed to be fix but i didnt test it myself.

for the length of the buff you can use the mystical art to make it last longer and usually most build have at least 30 to 50 magic point making the buff last long enough to boss or tough fight

Definitely not authoritative by any means as I've never used a build focused exclusively on magic damage output, but I absolutely love using it as a utility. You can max out your utility at 35 magic stat and gain a lot of nice benefits like barrier talisman (faster ki), rejuvenation talisman (heal over time), and the "familiar" spells are particularly awesome for combat utility.

Using 150 magic stat right now to keep ultimate magic active from a scroll which gives me both mystic arts at once, and it's very difficult to imagine the game without it. I generally run the two talismans above, as well as others (luck talisman when farming stuff) and familiars which I can change out at shrines when necessary. Carnage talisman is also quite badass.
Mander Jul 16, 2021 @ 4:47am
I've tried both Onmyo and Ninjutsu, and bar the quick change scroll, personally I find Onmyo superior, mainly because of the multiple buff which you can stack together on yourself and the debuff you can impose on an enemy.
Atm, i roll with 2 sources of different elemental damage (for proccing confusion on top), weakness talisman, extraction (for augmenting the effects of health regen on amrita absorption), barrier talisman (for ki regen) and carnage talisman. Add quickchange scroll to the mix, and I hardly feel the need for anything else.

Pleiades is not worth it. If you want to build the gauge fast then use the 3 hit door yokai ability, it recharges like 2/5 of the gauge and costs 6 anima total (each 2). Also reliably breaks guards.

If you want to fill the whole gauge instantly then you have to have Saoirse guardian spirit and the talisman to use the spirit skill. It gives you pleiades on drugs that's about 2x stronger than the normal one and you can fill the whole gauge in one go.

It's pretty nice and you can shift all the time (3-4x per boss). Unfortunately, the cooldown is still there.
