Mortal Soul Cores - wtf?
So I'm trying to understand something about Soul Cores. I can't even tell you how many hours I played this game thinking "Guardian Spirits have a color code based on their elemental, and so do Soul Cores". Until I tried to use a Mortal Soul Core in Soul Fusion just now, it never even crossed my mind that those 3 colors meant Feral, Brute, and Phantom, or that a Soul Core even HAD that property.

Anyway... now that I know, is there any reason not to just transform all my equipped Cores to Feral (given that's what I predominantly use)? Does it make any difference other than that one Shiftling skill? Like does it change which enemies will be most vulnerable or something like that?

Nothing is stopping you from doing that, it is what they are for :) Nothing changes in regards to damage numbers or weaknesses or anything like that, just by changing the colour of a core (not counting the +x damage to brute skills some cores can drop with, of course, it seems selfexplanatory to me at least) My recommendation would be to keep a couple of fully upgraded soulcores of the ones you like the most and change the colours of the "extras" - so you have the original colour of it and perhaps a core in the other two colours, so you can mix and match them as you like :)
A good place to farm mortal soulcores, by the way, is the brothers blade mission, with the revenant and iceman boss, both have a chance to drop one :)

You mean 'The Dragons Echo'
"Recovers 10% of the Anima spent to perform a yokai Ability if its type matches the type pf your Guardian Spirit."

I don't know any other benefits, I could be wrong here, maybe there are hidden passives that the game doesn't say directly. But that particular skill is pretty nice, i think gaining some little extra anima is always good.

there's no reason not to match the colors with your spirit type

It also took me a good while to notice that soul cores color by yokai type instead of element, like guardian spirits do. It's not a big problem to just equip any cores you have, but fusing mortal cores to match colors for that anima discount is always a nice thing. The more anima gain you have, the more aggressive you can be with chaining those yokai abilities within your combos and the more you can use those really expensive cores.
