thanks man im new to Deck havnt owned anything handheld since PSP ive only owned this for a few months but one thing ive come to realize, the hard way,is that "newer" games are a BIG risk outside games from the 360/one PS2/3 crossover era.atleast for me on oled deck but i was always a console guy so having these discussions are new and VERY helpful.only real way u can save money is by asking the fans first lol.i got spend happy first week cause everything is cheap but didnt have any idea what i was walking into with performance issues.i got like 7 games already that ill never download again unless im docked maybe smh
If you check the store page for the game, and click on the 'steam deck compatibility' icon off to the right, it'll break down WHY it's listed as green, yellow, or red. In Nioh 2's case, it is because in the character editor, there is a text box for character codes if you are trying to import settings, and because text may be 'small/hard to read' on the screen.
Performance wise, a quick check of YT shows it actually runs pretty good on low settings, managing to handle 60fps just fine, with the occasional momentary dips before going right back to normal framerates, although there are a couple of levels late in the game that might require render scale to be dropped a bit further. There are videos on YT of it being played on Steam decks, including OLED ones, so assess for yourself. If all else fails the steam deck can ABSOLUTELY handle it in 30fps mode, which shouldn't be too jarring if you are used to consoles.
For the most part, if a game is green or yellow on compatibility, it will run okay, though if yellow you should check what the listed issues are and judge from there. There's also a site called 'protonDB' that can be helpful for assessing potential issues before buying.
