Questions about coop and progression
Having recently come off of Stranger of Paradise:

- Can you coop every mission, except maybe the tutorial? If not, how many missions are solo only, and about how hard are they? Stranger of Paradise most solo "missions" were actually cutscenes. Are you limited with a currency for multiplayer, or can you just host and invite people in? Can both sides be doing the mission blind first, or do guests have to have beaten the mission first?

- What's progression like? In Stranger of Paradise, postgame a 250 level mission would drop 240ish level gear, so you were always being really challenged if you wanted to push forward. You also don't develop stats through levelup in SoP, instead getting minor bonuses from gear. What are both of these systems like in Nioh 2?

I beat the main game of Nioh 1 back in like 2017, but I barely remember it now. I know it's pretty hard.

you can co-op almost every main mission in the game except one, and of the side missions you can't co-op on 1v1 missions that have no shrine

progression gets harder and harder but harder enemies and difficulties drop higher level gear so you shouldn't have a problem catching up or surpassing the difficulty level, until super duper end game that

gear is more important than character level for the most part but of course you'll find people doing level 1 runs and level 1 weapon runs

Progression looks the same. Level of your equipment doesn't really affects anything but stats, so you could find that with gear 250 you could beat level 300 with no problems. But here you also have your character level and you use amrita/souls/runes/experience to improve your stats, so here you could pick stats you want (and reroll them in late game if needed). Your level also doesn't affect anything much, except the raw stats, so you could (and probably will) beat like level 400 missions at level 200-300. As in SoP there are different difficulty levels, so after beating game once you need to beat the last mission on the new difficulty to unlock the next difficulty. But you don't need to run everything again. You need to complete specific number of missions (even side ones will do) to unlock last level to beat it. Equipment here also has level, but it also has plus (+) stat. Like you could have equipment lvl 150 + 30. That is done by fusing equipment. I think Nioh has less meaningful skills in armor/weapon, but here you could reroll stats to random/semi-random skills using some materials. As in SoP you don't really need to care about your gear until DoD (NG ++)

Nioh1 was harder because of it's cheap mechanics, like throwing lot of enemies at once. Nioh2 is more balanced in that regard.

How many of the duel missions (I think Nioh 1 had these too) that aren't coopable are there?

Also I'm getting mixed info from Google. One post says you can coop the whole game together, other ones say you need to beat the mission first to join a host who wants to do that mission. Which is it?

I think there are few of them, but they aren't required to move forward, so you could move on and return to beat it over-leveled. As Angel said you could coop any mission with shrine.

Yeah but do I have to beat the mission first to coop it? That's what I've read in some posts and it doesn't make sense.

Shrine method is the one where you need cups right? What about the other mode where you have lives?

you can co-op the whole game together except one main mission (and the missions with no shrine), just make sure to see the moving to the next region cutscene first

If you mean that if you need to beat mission to be able to play it in coop, then no. You could coop from the start, even if you didn't beat the mission. Not sure if you could jump in the middle of other person's coop sesssion if you didn't play this mission though. But in other aspects, the coop is seamless and one of the best in soul games and pretty much the same as SoP.

There are 2 types of coop
1st as in SoP. You create a room and wait for people or invite them. You both will have blue line, which will decrease when one of you die and fill when you beat strong enemies. So you don't need any items here. After you beat the mission the party is not auto disbanded and you could proceed further together. During that coop enemies will become stronger the more real people play.

2nd is by the shrine. You pray at the shine and offer a cup or two. So any person can join you mid mission. It's quick play. If any of your guest die or you beat the boss they disconnected. If host is dead, then everyone is disconnected and you start from the last shrine again. During coop there is level balance, so people who join you become same level as you (this still enough to beat some bosses with 1 hit)

Just want to mention if this mission what I think it is, it's just a boss fight and not hard, so you shouldn't worry about being locked without help.

Thanks a lot.

Can you summon the AI partners (I think they're in graves?) in coop?

Yes, but they will take a place of cup, so you will be able to summon only 1 person instead of 2.

Can you get banned for modding like Souls, or do they not care since no PvP?

I didn't hear anything about bans. There were some cheaters in Nioh1. There are some cheaters for Teahouse (where you generate points by helping missions or doing high rank). Game has no PvP. So I would say there almost 0 chance to get banned
