Edit: armor set, and grace set?
Demon Hunter Armor for purity bonuses. Grace is not used, since there are no good ones for Divine Gear. I know there is an ethereal grace for purity, but it's not accessible for me yet
unless the smithing text specifies that it needs NG+ to drop, you should farm them in DotS. the online mission in afterglow calamity pulse is very good for smithing texts because shuten doji and otakemaru have a wide variety they drop. william drops alot of them too.
in high stance you really shouldnt be having a damage issue. you need to find both armor set and grace set that matches what you want to do.

Edit: this is where weapon, and armor smithing texts can be important because you can just rng the graces for weapons and armor until you have what you need. Oh (spirit) has lucky drop accessory as one of its perks.
purification is the strongest mechanic in the game and is incredibly easy to scale, Increased Damage vs Purified and Zero Ki together are incredibly strong more damage taken by the opponent modifiers.
Purification gets rid of the absurd buffs enemies get and makes them very susceptible to taking more KI damage.
You said it best yourself, you spam and pray it's enough.
Spend some time with the game, try and understand the mechanics and go from there.
This game is great and giving up cause ur builds trash is pretty sad.
Especially in the gaming market of today where half the games are actual garbage.

Dream of the Nioh, aka NG++++
I'm surprised Benzaiten's grace wasn't mentioned, as it provides a 60% damage boost at max stacks with a 6 piece requirement. Even without max stacks at like 3-4 or something it's still a solid boost in damage.
I want to make some things mentioned in previous posts a bit more clear too.
Graces and Set bonuses don't have any restrictions to them besides just having the pieces needed and the base stat requirements (like 10 Constitution or something). You can mix and match Graces and Normal Armor Sets or not use one or the other or none at all.
For the weapon portion, both your primary weapons and both ranged weapons can roll a Grace on them, meaning they can make up 4 pieces of the requirements for the set bonus to take effect.
Then damage, starting in Dream of the Demon, it's possible to Temper Active Skill Damage on all 5 of your armor pieces. Roughly netting around a 22-24% damage boost to your Active Skills.
Star Rolls on Accessories like Melee Damage Vs. Scorched Enemy or Melee Damage Vs. Zero Ki Enemy also start to appear (Purity and Corruption are available starting from Dream of the Wise iirc). Zero Ki enemy would work well with your current setup due to the increase in Ki damage that Purity provides alongside the solid Ki damage Fists has. iirc the damage increase can roughly range between 13-20% depending on the roll.
Finally, starting from Dream of the Strong (NG+), Picture Scrolls become available and it's possible to roll one that has Increased Attack: Winded Enemy which buffs your attack by 20% whenever you Wind an enemy (get them to Zero Ki).

Protection Talisman,
Quickchange scrolls (some recommend to not use this but i say its there to be used),
Extraction Talisman with gear with the stat 'life recovery (amrita absorbtion)' on as much gear as possible so it stacks which will be an improved version of your lifeleech talisman which wont be limited to one enemy but all enemies within the time frame (personally this right here is a life saver and i couldnt play end game nioh without it and you will level up faster due to increased amrita). there is also a clan you can join that will give you a 'life recovery (amrita absorbtion)' and is the most used clan in the game due to this, STACK IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
along with that also use elemental familiars which apply elemental debuffs with ease just by being close to the enemy and it also pairs well with the previous method i mention which will casually increase your health (there will be more benefits with it later on in dotN such as sloth hit on onmyo hits). also this works well with gear that has the stat 'Life Leech (Onmyo Hit) AAA' which will further heal your health, which could very well save you from getting 2 hit KO'd since you will recover enough health after the first hit to not die from the second hit.
