usually 6 piece oyamatsumi grace with 7 piece izanagi for the cleansing prayer healing( this healing able to stay side by another auto life recovery buff) or 6 oyamatsumi with atleast 4 piece amaterasu for more life the rest any of your choice then use it together with uesugi clan for a free shield when you does the yokai pool cleansing it scale with your max hp and it reduce damage taken while online co op, then there the life recovery per amrita through the chest piece temper,hellish hag soul core and that pile of meat yokai(i forgot the name), and the 2 piece of acessories that able to temper life recovery through amrita absorption together with extraction talisment and you should able to heal while trading blow 114 pertick of amrita if you got them all stack up. For guardian spirit Amabie able to create multiple healing pools through guardian talisman.

oh almost forgot and there are some really good armor that have quite good default elemental resistance like tigerskin armor that can completely trivialize elemental dmg through the stacking of temper in elemental resistance and then just pop in firestop, thunderstop, and waterstop talismans.

6 piece Oyo with Veterans armor will make you pretty tanky.
Ultimate Constitution for auto heal as long you´re at 70% HP or above
Life leech (amrita absorb for life)
Get elemental protection from talismans (super cheap) and you are pretty tanky.
The absolute lategame will still punish you but it´s no instant death. All the rest is trivial with such a build.

In theory you can reach near 20k life with an HP regen of close to 2k HP/s.
Higehst I bothered was ~15k HP with a HP reg of ~1300HP/s.

Pick the Clan I always forget for Amrita HP leech
Get 6piece Oyamatsumi & 7 piece Izanagi on a heavy armor like Veterans armor
Use the Tatarimokke soul core in your secondary Guardian Spirit to create Yokai pools so you can get easy Cleansing Prayer buff up
Get amrita absorbtion for HP on weapons and accessoires and soul cores
Get Ultimate Constitution
Get star mod life on every piece of gear

Aim for everything that has reduce attack mid DMG (core - helmets). And possibly swap to double swords with active skill life leech. The reduce attack mid damage means you get reduced damage when swinging your weapons.

Use onmyo life leech when hit (lasts a long time). And pair it with empowered Onmyo so you can keep spamming it. Bosses later can take it off with some bull awakening and you gotta keep putting it back on.

This will be the basis of any tank build.

Extras

Plus defense on amulets (onmyo and something else i forgot)
Get clan with plus dmg for more weight.
Use armor plus Onmyo
Use stamina regen Onmyo
Mastery Dual sword
Reduce elemental damage sets (smith and accessory to get the items to drop)

Are you talking about the base game or the endgame? If we're talking about the base game, then look out for Veteran gear, alongside Onryoki's soul core and Inosasao GS, maybe also Kato's clan. Go Axe for the poise shout, and then use Life Leech like others said.

stack health replenish and get 100% chance to take halved damage when you are full hp.

Get hit for half, and quickly heal up with life steals. You are basicaly immortal

Sure, it`s possible. Start by using Hammers or the Pickaxe. Those weapons scale off Constitution, and Stamina. This will boost your max health by a huge amount. It will also allow you to use heavy armor for max defense and damage reduction.

Grace of Oyamatsumi is a must for anything that isn`t a glass cannon build in the Depths. I like to combine it with Susano so I have some offensive attack power. You could try mixing Oyamatsumi with Acala for some kind of ultimate tank build but I`m not a fan of it. I tried that myself and it just seemed useless. Maybe you could have better luck with it?

Remodel your armor at the blacksmith. Increasing the weight of your armor will give you the biggest defense boost so that is what I always go for. As for what heavy armor to use? Use whatever you like. I think I`ve decided Tiger Skin armor works best for me. I always put Path of the Demon on my picture scroll so it helps with the negative aspects of that.

Onryoki soul core. You get something like 21% damage resistance when you are attacking. Very nice to have. Just make sure you are always attacking. Otherwise it won`t help you. You can also use that warthog/pig Guardian Spirit as your main if you want max defense. Or you can use it as your second GS. You will still get about 7% damage reduction when attacking. Every little bit helps.

Oh, and join the Todo clan. At around 200 Stamina you get an extra 1,000 points of health. Also get the equipment damage bonus.
