Can't load my game, i receive an error message just saying "No". Creating a new one doesn't fix the issue.

LMAO Are you serious?

That's legitimately the most hilarious error message I've heard of coming from a game when you try to boot it up. Try to start and just, "No." XD

Have you tried validating your files or restarting your game?

That sounds like an EasterEgg from one of the Coders who never expected it to see the light of day. What kind of magical combination of crazy could have caused it. I'm both highly amused, seriously one of the funniest things I've seen in gaming in years.. and I also feel wholly horrible for the OP who can't play their saved game.

Before you do anything permanent to try and fix things, you really should open a direct Trouble Ticket with Tech Support. They really need to know and might be able to provide a fix or perhaps a backup file, depending on the situation and cause.

https://www.koeitecmoamerica.com/support/

Provide everything you did or didn't do already. Try to be as detailed as possible because every little bit of information can help fill in the blanks. Even if it doesn't seem important, provide screen shots and exact information.

Below is silliness and sarcasm that doesn't translate well so please be aware and know that I'm not saying anything negative. Always need a Disclaimer:

Technical Troubleshooting is as much about random bits of information coalescing in to a magical formula in someone's head to create an A-Ha! moment of clarity to find a solution, as it is about making all of the required sacrifices demanded by the Techno Gods who rule our lives and demand our loyalty and blind devotion. Have you completed your annual sacrifice of a Vestal Virgin in to the Volcano to appease the Nioh 2 Gods? That's a great character name. Vestal Virgin.

Ive seen the "No" error message come up from three causes before. First, when you've edited your save or used Cheat Engine in a manner which gives you some sort of impossible equipment or stats. Alternatively, if you trip the game's memory editing protection while the game is running, it will auto-close the game and give you that message when trying to restart. Third, on the Playstation the game would give this error message if there was a problem validating DLC ownership. That last one was fixed, though, and it shouldn't be possible for it to happen on PC since that authority isn't checked.

It also miiiiiight happen if your save file gets corrupted, but I don't think I've seen a confirmation on that. I've only ever seen this pop up on PC when someone sets of anti-cheat/anti-tampering code.

Guess you can forget the stuff I said about opening a Support Ticket, if that's the case. ;p

Good to know and is it at all odd that I feel as though I've passed some sort of test I didn't realize I was taking?

Technically speaking, editing your save to have 'imposible' data will cause the game to treat it as corrupt, so those two are the same thing. The memory editing protections could technically also be causing corrupt save issue.

So, turn off steam cloud saves, delete the saves for the game, both persistent and actual character save, and then see if it still gives the same error. If you have a corrupt file in cloud, it very much will simply keep looping you because the steam cloud doesn't recognize it as invalid, resulting in it redownloading said save. IDK if you can toggle steam cloud ability from in-game via alt-tabbing, but if you can, when you exit the game with an uncorrupted save, that should replace the one in steam cloud. Other option to cheat it, is to unplug your net temporarily while launching the game after removing the faulty local saves, then reconnect it once you've started the game and played far enough to create saves, at which point the more recent saves should overwrite the corrupt ones in the cloud.

FTR:
If messing around with mods or CE, turn off your cloud saves and back up the modded/cheated saves locally in a safe directory. This prevents you from totally losing your saves if you goof something, and also means you don't have to deal with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of corrupted saves in the cloud. Also, keep your edits and cheats to singleplayer modes.

It's a bricked save. Changing your Clan Favor value using CE is a very common way to get the "No" message. Let us know if that is what you did.

If you did touch Clan Favor in CE, this message is typically irreversible because Clan Favor is a universal stat (it is shared across all your characters) and was baked into your save. If you don't have a backed up save from before the edit, you might be out of luck.

UPDATE
I Contacted the Support team and received a This last night
"Dear Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry.
We are sorry for the delay in replying to you.

Firstly, please execute "Verify Integrity of Game Files" on Steam.
If the issue persists after doing the above, please try renaming "BACKUP.BIN" stored in the same folder as the save data to "SAVEDATA.BIN", and see if it resolves the issue.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Koei Tecmo Customer Support"

Renaming the "BACKUP.BIN" did work, Had to redo about 2 hours of progress but its better than starting from zero.

Great info to know on both counts. Super happy that Tech Support came through for you. Still near and dear to my heart, all things Tech Support. Knowing this answer will help others in the future and one of us will remember it down the road if it comes up again. Thanks for the follow up.

Thanks for clearing your name because I'd added you to the "Super Bad Cheater Person" list and also asked Santa to put you on the Naughty List. ;)

Then if the anti cheat is in place then how come I see people with 15,000,000 favor on the leader boards?

The game DOESN'T have a typical anti-cheat. It just doesn't accept out of range values being inserted by CE, instead crashing out and treating the save as corrupt because of erroneous values.

As for people with that much favor, well, they could be cheaters, or they could be individuals who are very dedicated to grinding and were mass-donating all of their gear drops, among other things.
I remember back when the game first came out, I could hit 400k without really trying once I reached the endgame loop.
