Low stance katana low stance attack + ki plus + forward dash
Just watched a dude use this repeatedly to zip around the map.

Anyone know how to perform this? I'm not sure what he was doing, but it looked like he was using a single attack in low stance with the katana and then instantly canceling that using a ki pulse + forward dodge.

Attempting to reproduce and the first active frames where I can ki pulse seem to come way later such that it's no where near as fast

It's actually a dash attack. If you're using xbox controller, hold A down and slide over to X whilst pressing forward. The ki pulse is just him pressing the ki pulse button. With practice you can do it really fast. High stance has it's own dash attack which looks like a mini jump slice.

Man, some combos and the Ki pulse and Flux in this game means you can play it like Beethoven but on a controller or keyboard. That is a bit over the top for me personally. Like going from one stance, use a skill that switch to another stance, Ki pulse skill, another stance skill and then Flux and back to another stance skill that goes into another stance... If you have the speed and control you can be devastating in this game. Its cool as hell, but as i said for me personally i cant play like that. Dont have that skill anymore, lol. I do Ki pulse and Flux but not long flowing combos crossing stances etc. Too much to think about and im not a piano player dammit! I dont have that kind of dexterity in my fingers. :lunar2019grinningpig:

Hehe love the post and can definitely relate. Amazes me what others can do. And I consider myself patient and diligent, but I suppose I have my limits.

Yeah im the same. I have to take my time, be good with dodge, burst counter, parry skills and interrupt the enemy. Some players that has joined me as visitors literally keep combo'ing and flying around like meth'ed up rabbits during mating season. That's the brilliance of the combat mechanics though, and the game in general, that you can play it and do well even if you can't play at the highest level and even if you don't use all the skills and mechanics that is available. 😎 However it's something to practice towards though and personally i like games that let me play at my level but there is also room to improve with practice to become even more badass. Games are usually either too easy (vast majority of games) or they are a small challenge and everyone can use all the mechanics because they are fairly simple and straight forward. NIOH is a cut above the rest. Granted i dont know of many Japanese games so maybe this is normal, but it definitely has advanced combat mechanics compared to most western made games, and i love it.

That's not what this was. I know the forward + A attack thatll dash if there's no enemy and he may have been using that. The part I'm confused about is the ability to ki pulse sooner. Katana low stance single attack is an upward swing. I cant ki pulse that until the recovery animation, yet he was doing it almost as soon as the attack started up he'd ki pulse cancel into a dash over and over again for practically no ki cost.

I'm guessing some sort of crit build as his health stayed low, the life absorb on amarita healed for 0, and his normal attacks did as much damage as a 9 stack iai

It might be the ki pulse on dodge skill. So quite possible he's using that.

Sorry to necro this thread. But did anyone ever figure this out? I still haven't figured out how to do it. Searching for dash cancel didn't give me the answer I was looking for either.

SInce nobody has mentioned it after several years what they are doing is queuing their inputs to essentially take advantage of the how insanely good the sword low stance dodge/dash attack ki pulse window is.
