The story gets so confusing by the end (Spoilers)
I have so many questions. I was keeping up with the story until Nobunaga.

- Who betrays Nobunaga? Under who's orders is this person betrays him?

- Why Tokichiro sudden turns into a a villain? Is it all because of greed?

- Mumyo, what's up with her? Is he related to the main character at all?

- I was reading some things on the game and it seems that you actually kill your twin brother on the the earlier stages of the game? Is that for real? The game makes no effort in mentioning this brother and give no matter to this delicate stuff like killing your brother is something normal.

It is because of greed and the stones. Tokichiro was driven by his desire and greed, like many others in the story. Their desires were influenced and twisted by the stones, turning many of them into a demon, and leading to the possession by the big bad evil guy you face at t the end. This demon has been possessing all sorts of people, trying tor egain his powers and using them as his vessel.

She is an orphon of the Demon Hunters and was adopted by their village. I think the village got wiped out and she is now hellbent on revenge.

You get an explanation later that it is bad luck for twins to be born in a village. So usually one of them gets killed.
Not wanting you to die your mother took you away, which then lead to her death by the Big Bad Evil Guy later.
And yes, your brother/sister (depends on player character gender) was also driven and consumed by their desires.

Well if we're going by what happened historically, it would have been Mitsuhide.

Wow, thanks for clearing that up!! Your explanation really helped me out getting some sense of this. Also, so that red eyed-staff guy never dies? He just get imprisoned for a while an then it is free too roam again? I mean, we barely killed him and there was that blond beach trying to ressucitate Tokichiro.

Akechi Mitsuhide. In history, real history, Mitsuhide was Oda's second in command. He convinced Oda to off himself.

- Why Tokichiro sudden turns into a a villain? Is it all because of greed?

In the game, it's due to the influence of the spirit stones, as well has Kashin Koji's evil manipulation. The story of the game picks up where famous conqueror of Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi was in his early years, serving in a monestary learning the ways of the monks, under the name of Tokichiro. In his lifetime, he went from impoverished to moving up in the ranks of the military - kind of rare for his time. Once Oda had offed himself, Toyotomi Hideyoshi took over the country as Shogun and become more and more crazed with power. He even started a war with Korea, in which he ultimately proved himself a fool and lost.

- Mumyo, what's up with her? Is he related to the main character at all?

Mumyo is part of the Sohaya. In the game, the Sohaya are demon/yokai hunters (the same reason you end up fighting the Sohaya throughout the game), and they're supposed to protect the Soyahamaru and the will of its creator. Mumyo is hunting Yokai with the main character as means of doing her job.

There's a lot to this game and Nioh 1 that takes a lot of historical and mythology knowledge to truly comprehend. I would suggest individually researching each person you're interested in knowing more about -- even the demons, like Otakemaru. A lot of it is very interesting.

Akechi Mitsude betrayed Nobunaga because he felt interest in the Spirit Stones which would have Japan a whole lot worse. Saito Toshimitsu (possessed by Kashin Koji) used that opportunity to make Tokichiro, who was even more blinded by the Spirit Stones, the next shogun while taking out Akechi at the same time.

But to be fair, it's hard to understand a lot of the characters unless you take into account the ENORMOUS time skips of several years inbetween missions.

Yeah the game borrows heavily from historic context but does it's own spin on it, obviously Japan never had a war with Onis in real life, but the general threads are there. Like the betrayal of Oda didn't go down quite the same way, but it still borrows from historic events none the less. The game also has it's bestiary that goes over the humans you meet and fills in as you play, you should read those from time to time to keep up with events that the game doesn't show you. Like your brother/sister and other bits that seem confusing at first.
