Can you forge/craft Ethereal gear?

From what I remember, you can't forge/craft Ethereal gear in Nioh 1, but is it same in Nioh 2? It would be shame that smithing texts becomes obsolete in end-game.

Yes and no. You forge divine gear then you temper an attribute on your trinkets that makes you currently equipped items drop at an insane rate, you then just wait for it to drop in ethereal quality.

When can you forge divine items? Because I've already gotten Ethereal and at this point I trash all divine items. But I've yet to be able to craft them.

So far it's only the upgrade material that I can craft. Then we have the gambling at the Hidden tea house.

Crafting is basically useless once you get Green items which is in NG+. After you only dismantle them to get reforge materials.

You already can. you need to press the strong attack button before clicking on forge to add divine essence to the crafting process and give the item a chance to become divine

Aaah, well crafting for me stopped being useful the very moment I got green items in the bucket load. I had basically switched out most of my gears within 2 missions.

It was available the moment you killed Otakemaru in NG.
