No

No, unlike Dark Souls, the Nioh games play out in missions, where you select a main story mission, side mission, etc., and play it in that limited area.
Between missions, you are looking at a world map and can choose missions, level up, utilize the blacksmith, etc.

Dark Souls isn't open-world either lol.

Pretty sure it is. It's just Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne that are pretty linear.

But anyway, the fact that the game is mission based (similar to action games, with Team Ninja being action game devs) should clue you in on how the game was meant to be interpreted.

No, Dark Souls is linear as well but you can do certain parts in whatever order you want.

Dark Souls 2 was more open-world than 1, 3, and BB.

You can watch people play it on Twitch right now. It's not open world, it's very closed world.

At the end of the road you can walk everywhere you want. Just because it's not 2432423423432 miles doesn't mean it's not open world. Open world isn't really dictated by size.

Dark Souls isn't considered open world. It's even more indicative because none of the Dark Souls on Steam have an open world tag. Anyways, I'll just leave this here and stop replying:

"In video games, an open world is a game mechanic of using a virtual world that the player can explore and approach objectives freely, as opposed to a world with more linear and structured gameplay."

There's no hard cutoff for what is or is not open world. I've heard plenty of people call dark souls 1 open world and some say it's not.

Open world you freely explore, cannot freely explore any souls like game. Just because you have few different paths in dark souls doesn't mean it's open world

Which describes Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2 perfectly.

There is relatively more open exploration in Dark Souls, in the sense that areas interconnect...whereas each area is instanced in Nioh. That said, neither is truly open world. However, between the two Dark Souls is indeed a bit closer to open world.

Because those tags are from the playerbase, that being said you quite literally described Dark Souls.
