Seconding this with the SCP Toolkit.
Although your in-game prompts by default may think they are Windows / Xbox prompts.
I already have SCPToolkit but it won't work
SInce it just makes the system think that it's an xbox controller, there is no way it won't work.
PS3 controller is not XINPUT (which is the current industry standard). pretty much all other controllers work flawlessly with steam.
so in short, it is impossible pretty much.
Does your PS3 controller show up at in Windows when you go to Controllers (for Set up USB Controllers)?
Is it an official Sony brand or a third-party Sony-style controller?
And are you using the PS3 controller wired or through a dongle?
Depending on your controller, if you're connecting wired, you may have to:
1) Launch the SCPServer executable
2) Press the PS3 button / Home button
3) Avoid using a USB Hub
4) Launch Steam in Big Picture Mode and change the controller order once the game has launched
5) Using another cable
6) Unpair gamepad with the PS3 for intercepting the signal and just powering on inadvertently
7) Using another USB port, since that port appeared to charge the device, but not accept input from it
The official Sony Dual Shock 3 controller required #1 and #6 on my computers.
Some of the other gamepads I've had since required any combination of #2 through #5 (and they were never paired with the PS3, but #7 would probably have been an issue too.
