You should be fine either way though, the game is only hard at the start (at least on Ng).
Then my gear is even more underleveled than me
The recommend level should have a difficulty beneath it represented in swords.
If the mission is ranked at 1 sword, your gear and level are considered more than sufficient.
And that does indeed factor in your equipped gear.
I've struggled with the Owl boss a lot. And I didn't get any good weapons until after I beat the boss, lol. Still, can't complain. After I finally defeated it (with a summon of course, because no way would I be able to beat it alone ever), I got a nice pair of hatchets and an odachi, both much higher level than the ones I had.
In this case, if your damage output and defense are still capable, then don't be afraid to tackle the stage. Good luck.
Thanks. I'm at the mission with the "iceman" boss and my damage output sucks against him. I barely chip away at his health or his ki with my strongest attacks. He's relatively easy otherwise, but since the fight takes so long, I make mistakes and die. So I guess level and weapon level matter a lot for a below average player like me. Again, while clearing out the level, I didn't get any weapons better than my current ones.
The yellow or white bomb items are also ranged and do a lot of damage, and some of it is fire based.
You can also use herbal medicines after your elixirs have run out
Thanks for your advice. I only have 1 herbal remedy though, so I make do with 8 elixirs. In any case, I finally beat him with hatchets today by using high stance throw as my main damage dealer (it's slow, but safe enough) in combination with fire talismans and sloth talismans for his dark realm phase. Without sloth he always killed me in dark realm with his crazy attack pattern. Oh yeah, and some gunpowder bombs which I used at the very end because I didn't want to risk spending ki on regular attacks.
Not sure I like it that this game requires magic/ninjutsu to deal actual damage. I always prefer pure melee.
