light armor feels like a trap
is it just me or does light armor suck? i wanted to use some mage armor i found so i redid my build to go from medium to light armor and now im just get smacked to 2000- 1700 health from bosses and i only have 1900 health. one of them just completely ignored my block and 1 shot me. does anyone else have this experience?

no, i essentially used no armor until the middle of dotnioh, and almost nothing could one.shot me.

use steel talisman, it makes the difference. i also advice you to use faster winded recovery, that purple effect you can temper on your equipment.

Some attacks just ignore blocks.

I challenged myself on purpose this time to use only light armor and I wasn't one shotted until DotW. And right now bosses sometimes one shot me probably because I don't have ethereal gear yet.

When running Onmyo build I preferred medium Onmyo Warrior set tho, more usefull bonuses IMO.

It's definitely not a "trap". I used light armor exclusively throughout the game including in the depths. A lot of other players also use light armor. Once you get used to AA agility it's hard to go back to A, let alone B agility.

You may not prefer it. You can use medium armor if you want, but both are very viable options. Light armor gives you better Agility, going heavier gets you better Toughness (so you don't get interrupted as much) and higher tankiness.

AA Agility > taking hits

Light Armor is a lot better for me due to my playstyle, I never stand still (Boss out of Ki Waterswords being exceptions) and prefer dodging over blocking

I've gotten to way of the wise in the first nioh using only light armor (I was a red demon spear guy), and now I've gotten to dream of the demon using only light armor, it's really just there for using less ki in attacks and dodging a lot, at least that is my playstyle.

What level is your armor? Light armor doesn't actually have to have that much less defense than medium or heavy armor, but if your armor is low level, that can be a big issue.

If you want extra defense with light armor, try getting some accessories that have defense scaling with some stat that you have a lot in, they can provide 50+ extra armor.

yeah im just going to swap back to medium armor. the damage bonus im getting from the light armor is actually pitiful (~3%) and i like having the versatility of being able to block without running out of ki

My man. Once you get further in levels you can swap it to heavy and still sit in B agility. Leave the boots as medium for a compromise in weight and get the star roll effect on them that increases your dodge distance. It's like light armor dodge range with B agility i-frames.

If you want to be tankier make sure you use the ''Wild Boar Crest Helmet'' together with Honda clan. This will make it so that when your HP is 100% (max) you take half damage of whatever hits you. Combine this with different HP regen stacks and you can tank actually stuff in the depths. Kasha's soul core, onmyo magic regen, armor temper traits that grant HP on amrita gained etc, Scroll rolls like path of the ravenous, Ultimate Constitution etc. Lot's of options how to get more HP regen / HP gained on attacks etc.

If you're in the depths you can farm the Oyamatsumi grace. Paired with Acala's grace you can actually be decently tanky even with light armor and have the ability to block a lot thanks to Acala's.

killed the boss. wasn't that bad it was mostly just frustrating at first because it was the first time i had an enemy use a completely unbloackable attack and then it also dealt enough damage to 1 shot me so it was a little hard to learn there moves at first

Why not add a points to stamina and wear some heavy pieces ? Later , you can wear full heavy armor with Agility B and Toughness AA . Get purity weapon which allow you to Ki pulse after guarding . With Agility B , your mobility is not too bad and you can still block effectively . Getting dedicated block grace with this set up makes you infinite blocking but I still think it’s overkill , so for me .. I use full damage graces .

When you talked about unblockable attacks , first thing come to my mind are grabs . For this , use soul core that can transform you into Yokai temporarily . My fav soul core for grab counter is Crab soul core . You transformed into a crab and spray a jet of water like “are you guys thirsty Ma da fa kasssss”

This crab transforms is
- instant start and immediately cancel any animation what you are doing .
- Only need 4 anima you use .
- Active skills can be use to apply water blight .
- Passive have damage reduction which is very good in later game and block stat .

I highly recommend you to try this if you are not aware of . Hope this can improve your survival .

It’s possible , I have a build with full heavy armor and use only feathers and offensive onmyo . Only thing you lose is Toughness AA instead you get A . The build also have magic 200 and courage 100 so it will be fine with your splitstaff .

Here is my build demonstration. Note the build in this video is still under construction. No where near optimized.

https://youtu.be/BNYqkIGStOg

Edit : The build in this video still at 180 magic . But I swapped 20 stamina to get 200 magic after having heavy chest piece that have extra weight 2.0 star stat .
But my point still stands .. you can use full heavy armor with agility B and Honda clan without affecting your magic based split staff play style .

There is a stat on items that increases damage the lower armor weight you have. But yeah, it is pretty small %.
