Should I buy this while it's on sale?
Okay, so Nioh is free on EGS with Nioh 2 being discounted alongside it. I don't want to miss the sale but I'm not sure if I need 2 similar games.

Is Nioh 2 much different than the first and is it worth its price point?

If you have not played Nioh 1, then I'd say no.
(In that, a free Nioh 1 from the Epic store is a great way to see if you'll like the series and that way, won't have spent the cost of Nioh 2 if it turns out you don't like Nioh 1.)

Only if you find yourself playing through Nioh 1 multiple times and engaging in post-game content where there are no achievements / trophies for it, then you are a very strong Nioh 2 candidate even at full price.

I personally like Nioh 2 more (character creation, polish on the equipment systems, additional combat options) than Nioh 1 (better protagonist motivation, better story pacing, diverse main level aesthetics early on). Story-wise, Nioh 2 is 90~95% prequel to Nioh 1, but to me, story and characters are Nioh 2's weakest area.

nioh 2 is not a continuation of nioh 1. its gameplay mechanics are arguably superior to nioh 1. if you are going to get it on egs then go for it. i had a blast playing it solo and with friends and randoms.

be warned though. it has advanced combat though you do not need to use all the advanced maneuvers they do help.

I played Nioh 2 for 600h before I got Nioh 1 and absolutely loved both. Both are pretty fantastic, though Nioh 2 is my favorite. Mostly because of my custom character, awesome cutscenes and gameplay having more spice.

Thank you for the replies. They both sound like pretty hardcore games. Perhaps I'll hold off on getting Nioh 2. I just didn't want to miss out on the free extras that come with getting the game now but maybe I'll just have to.

Just get 1 for now, it's very similar to 2 so it will give you a good taste of what Nioh is like. Plus by the time you're done with it. Nioh 2 will probably be on a bigger sale, the game is pretty long.

Definitely. And it's the biggest reason I can't find the motivation to end the story.

Gameplay-wise it is definitely better than the first game. But they made some really weird decisions in regards to the player character. My guess is they did that to "justify" the character creation but it really hurt the story-telling of the game. The player character might as well not exist for the majority of it.

Why would you buy it ? Get it from Epic for free .Simple. Epic store is just as good as Steam. Anyone who says otherwise is just an idiot.

He's talking about Nioh 2... He knows that 1 is free on Epic.

Easy tiger! I think you must be confused. I'm talking about Nioh 2 not Nioh 1. There's no EGS bias here friendo.

I would get and play 1 on EGS and buy 2 on steam when it's on sale XD

nioh 2 has much better gamplay. It has more weapons, more enemies, more skills, demonic transformation etc....

I cant tell you if its worth it to you when Nioh 1 is free. I personally find it hard to go back to 1 now.

Nioh 2. There is so much more, like Soul Cores, and Picture Scrolls, that add a lot to the game, and more weapons. I feel it is a improvement in every way over Nioh 1, but Nioh 1 is fun also, and the story is pretty trippy. I don't feel the need to revisit Nioh 1, but I am glad I played it, and Nioh 2 is my third person action combat game, with one of the best ever combat systems, and a vast, deep loot system, for many possible builds.

Nioh 2 is much better than the first game in pretty much every way except for the story.
