Find the culprit among the shelves by expanding the view for them, and right click the rotten items to have it disposed of.
If the survivors eat rotted food, they'll get sick and throw up, which is even more annoying.
I have a large compound and wherever you go you hear a constant sound of buzzing flies. It's a terrible sound that gets on the nerves after awhile. Seriously, I was in game for over 2 hours with the sound of buzzing flies. I even quit to the main menu and you could still hear buzzing flies. It's becoming a game breaker for me.
There must be another way to point out that there's rotten food somewhere. How about green vapors emitting from spoiled food? Or maybe someone can make a mod to either get rid of the buzzing sound or a mod that keeps food from spoiling. I'ts too bad a mod is needed for this, but I hope the devs rethink their spoiled food strategy.
It's bad enough that I have to turn off the western music and I don't necessarily dislike western music. But that music loses it's repetitive lackluster after awhile.
And, sorry for sounding critical but I hope it's taken as honest criticism and not meant to hurt anyones feelings. I like the game and see it has great potential and is an EA game.
Here is the thread:

So here's the dilemma. First, there's really no practical option to get rid of the bad food from the fridge. Also, even if you could, what would you do with it? There's no option in the game to dispose of the bad food. So you have to wait for it to disappear? So how many days do have to listen to the buzzing flies until the food disappears and you can only hope more food doesn't go bad before that happens. Which in my game, more is going to go bad before the other bad food disappears.
So, the saved game I've been playing is broken as far as i"m concerned because I can't play it in good quality.
If you expand the storage view in the fridge / shelves, or how to explain, there is an option to see each individual storage slot in things, instead of just having entire stacks showing (top left in the info panel).
Then there should be an option to get rid of the bad batch by clicking on it. I think also there is a message somewhere when you have it selected 'Right-click to dispose', or something, and an icon will appear on the food indicating it's been marked for disposal. But it has to be a really low 'freshness'-bar for it to appear, but if there are flies, that should qualify.
Then a survivor should come along and simply get rid of it, like remove it from the game, so to speak. I think it's part of their 'handle' activity, so should happen pretty fast.
But if it's the stuck sound bug, that's a different issue I guess. Luckily I haven't had that happening myself ...yet (knock on wood)
Shouldn't be flies in the freezer, though! Or not living ones...
This has also been discussed a bit, since the survivors have to have this activity higher than everything else for them to start moving things right away, and during this activity they will also do other transport tasks, like collecting harvests that has been left behind, and wood, rocks etc.
If you have the last activity to priority 1 and all the others on 2-5 (or blank), they will do this transporting before anything else, although the downside of this is that they will start collecting stones (for example) from far away while the one assigned to mining the stone is still mining, so they might go off on long treks just to collect 20 stone. Same with farming harvests and wood and such.
So some micromanaging involved...
I love micromanaging, but hopefully we might see some adjustments to this system (and the buzzing flies issue) before the game comes out of early access
