Buzzing Flies
Seriously, Devs. that noise is extremely irritating. It's just an awful sound. I can barely stand to play because of the sounds of buzzing flies. The only way to escape it is to mute the game and is that what you really expect players to do? I doubt it.

The point is to get rid of the rotting food that attracts the flies, then you'll also get rid of the sounds.

Find the culprit among the shelves by expanding the view for them, and right click the rotten items to have it disposed of.

If the survivors eat rotted food, they'll get sick and throw up, which is even more annoying.

i have 2 cold rooms with 3 big fridges and storage boxes of which all are full. I couldn't find the problem until I built another cooler, moved a bunch of stuff out and then saw the flies. I also kept going through the inventory lists and nothing showed anything was spoiled. Was all that necessary?

I have a large compound and wherever you go you hear a constant sound of buzzing flies. It's a terrible sound that gets on the nerves after awhile. Seriously, I was in game for over 2 hours with the sound of buzzing flies. I even quit to the main menu and you could still hear buzzing flies. It's becoming a game breaker for me.

There must be another way to point out that there's rotten food somewhere. How about green vapors emitting from spoiled food? Or maybe someone can make a mod to either get rid of the buzzing sound or a mod that keeps food from spoiling. I'ts too bad a mod is needed for this, but I hope the devs rethink their spoiled food strategy.

It's bad enough that I have to turn off the western music and I don't necessarily dislike western music. But that music loses it's repetitive lackluster after awhile.

And, sorry for sounding critical but I hope it's taken as honest criticism and not meant to hurt anyones feelings. I like the game and see it has great potential and is an EA game.

Ah ok, if you heard it on the main menu, I've seen this discussed before as a bug. Requires restart of the game, if I remember correctly. But I think I remember a dev responding that it's being looked into and hopefully fixed.

Here is the thread:

So, I went back to the game and the only option to get rid of the bad food is to empty and deconstruct the fridge. But since I configured other storage not to take that food, there was a message saying there's no storage for that food so they wouldn't deconstruct the fridge, Would it make sense for them to put the bad food in another storage?

So here's the dilemma. First, there's really no practical option to get rid of the bad food from the fridge. Also, even if you could, what would you do with it? There's no option in the game to dispose of the bad food. So you have to wait for it to disappear? So how many days do have to listen to the buzzing flies until the food disappears and you can only hope more food doesn't go bad before that happens. Which in my game, more is going to go bad before the other bad food disappears.
So, the saved game I've been playing is broken as far as i"m concerned because I can't play it in good quality.

If you close the game and reload, is the noise removed? Mine would resolve, but after a few hours it would always come back and I located it under the floorboards where they'd dump the rotten food from my freezer/fridge.

If you expand the storage view in the fridge / shelves, or how to explain, there is an option to see each individual storage slot in things, instead of just having entire stacks showing (top left in the info panel).

Then there should be an option to get rid of the bad batch by clicking on it. I think also there is a message somewhere when you have it selected 'Right-click to dispose', or something, and an icon will appear on the food indicating it's been marked for disposal. But it has to be a really low 'freshness'-bar for it to appear, but if there are flies, that should qualify.

Then a survivor should come along and simply get rid of it, like remove it from the game, so to speak. I think it's part of their 'handle' activity, so should happen pretty fast.

But if it's the stuck sound bug, that's a different issue I guess. Luckily I haven't had that happening myself ...yet (knock on wood)

After reloading the game, the buzzing was gone. But I figured out how to get rid of them. Just right click on the bad items in storage and a sim will come and throw it away.

Thanks Bjorn. It's true if you right click on a rotten item in storage, the sim will come and throw it away. It would have made things easier if there was an indication on the throw away action, otherwise you discover it by mistake. Maybe they can make a storage item like a garbage can or a storage that lets you throw away rotten food. Or maybe a compost bin.

Actually, it's still not working correctly. The cooked food is in the freezers and there's tons of flies but I can't dispose of the bad food. It's at about 28% going bad. So do you have to wait until it reaches zero but still have to deal with flies? It's a bad issue. I hope they fix it.
Seelander Mar 17, 2023 @ 10:48pm
you can dispose once it would make someone sick eating it, not sure how low it needs to be going bad but guessing around 10%
Bjørn Mar 18, 2023 @ 5:00am
I'm not 100% sure, but once it's in the freezer, it won't spoil any further, since everything frozen will last 'forever'. So if it's already in such a bad state that there are flies, it's best to put it outside the freezer, and let it spoil further until it can be thrown away? I also think it's about 10% until the option appears.

Shouldn't be flies in the freezer, though! Or not living ones...

I had just built a new cold room with new freezers and the sims moved the food there and I didn't realize some of the food was bad. Now I can't do anything except empty and deconstruct the freezers, or mute the game and wait it out.
Bjørn Mar 18, 2023 @ 6:22am
No need to deconstruct the freezers, but moving things between storage areas require some micromanaging. Have to remove permission to store the goods you want to remove using the filters tab, and make sure another shelf or something will allow the goods. The survivors will move the items from one place to the other(s) under the last activity on the activities screen. Forgot the name, Transport?

This has also been discussed a bit, since the survivors have to have this activity higher than everything else for them to start moving things right away, and during this activity they will also do other transport tasks, like collecting harvests that has been left behind, and wood, rocks etc.

If you have the last activity to priority 1 and all the others on 2-5 (or blank), they will do this transporting before anything else, although the downside of this is that they will start collecting stones (for example) from far away while the one assigned to mining the stone is still mining, so they might go off on long treks just to collect 20 stone. Same with farming harvests and wood and such.

So some micromanaging involved... :longhaul:

I love micromanaging, but hopefully we might see some adjustments to this system (and the buzzing flies issue) before the game comes out of early access
