Keep Survivors Indoors
There needs to be a toggle to keep survivors indoors, guys. Dwarf Fortress has had this for almost as long as it's been out and it's not that difficult; my survivors keep doing their absolute best to freeze themselves to death or choke on toxic ash or name another problem and keeping them inside is an excessive amount of micromanagement.

All it needs is a toggle that says "you can't go outside right now".

Happened to me just the other day. Middle of a bleeding cold snap, no good clothes yet (first winter, and I hadn't found the clothfiber plant until too late to harvest in time); so the idiot decides to go outside for this, go back outside for that. Died of hypothermia. Same game another one decided to go outside during a thunderstorm, got struck by lightning multiple times, left her with permanent brain damage.

"Yes, Xander, I know it's -20* C, but I want to go shoot at the dummy to relieve some stress"

"Nova, you're my cousin and you have mental problems, it says so in your bio. So I'm locking you inside."

"This isn't fair! How can you tell who's insane and who's insane?"

"Well, we have a very simple method!" *stamps hand* "Whoever has that stamp on his hand is insane!"

you can always disable the task that keeps taking them out the door, or you can draft them and tell them to go inside. i have enough chores in my base to where i can keep them busy inside when the time comes. i just disable the farm and make sure their is nothing outside that there trying to chop, mine, or hunt. the small tasks in the area wont be enough to cause them to much injury

It's doable but this is where we get into the "excessive micromanagement" part; especially because they seem so fond of taking walks, observing statues, shooting at targets, all in the middle of a blizzard. And then you get into which tasks require visiting a stockpile; you have to disable multiple tasks for each survivor and then also reenable them all when the disaster has passed.

Believe me, I'm not saying I don't know how to do it, it's just far more effort than it should be when a single toggle would be sufficient to address it.

I second this, we need a toggle.

I got the lock doors mod, but it's not very effective either as I have many doors, to make it easier for people to move about... I thought I might be able to apply it with one click to many identified doors, but its more like opening and closing windows- one at a time.

Another option would be to have multiple task managers so we could toggle between day/night, or indoor/outdoor, etc.
