Plus this wouldn't be the main perimeter fence for the compound, but rather around the kill box area. I noticed you can shoot through forcefield barriers, so it gives me more time-on-target basically.
I like to rely more on guns than on flamethrowers; flamethrowers are the final line of defense in my killbox. So far, as of year 5 day 10, no enemy has yet made it to the flame throwers.

I definitely under-valued force fields in my previous playthroughs.
I ended up using the force-fields for my entire base, not just the kill box, it has something like 3 or 4 power connection spots, and in all cases the power poles are actually not targetable from outside the field.
The main connection pole, for example, is behind a 5 deep layer of raised carbon flooring (atop which sits my windowed 'room' for hummingfly assaults, as well as a lot of turrets and spotlights).
I think I'm good!
