Ore Prospecting Breakthrough
Does anybody use this breakthrough at all? I just tried it out mining 1000 stone and got 50 ore altogether so it seems like it about 20% chance since you get 20 stone per rock and 5 Ore every time it procs. So that’s 10 Ore procs in 50 rocks. I guess it could be useful if I built with as much stone as possible. Anyone use this more extensively?

It is the very last research i do if it's in the science list. I don't pay attention to the result anyways. Sorry that i can't provide data on it.

Wouldn’t it be best to prioritize this as 1st if you have it to get the most return?

Yeah if you actually pay attention to a return or it shows more clearly.

I don't think I have this breakthrough, but after sending a mining team to get ore today, I saw that there were also some silicon left behind when they were finished. stacks of 5 here and there.

So this must have come from mining the ore, and it's a standard feature to get 'bonus' materials when mining, but this tech increases the chance of getting more?

I marked the silicon to not be used, btw, as I thought it was a bit far off to get 15 silicon. A bit glad I spotted them, or someone might have ventured out to get them at an inconvenient time...

Interesting, I’ll have to try this out later without Ore Prospecting and see what the yield for Ore is. I feel that the fact you already can get it without the breakthrough kinda reduces its usefulness unless it’s a really low chance without it.

Yes, it was only about 400 or so ore total. 20 nodes, if there is 20 ore in each (forgot now), and 15 silicon from those.

By the way, several of the nodes I mined were from 2 meteorite crashes in the same area, but the silicon only dropped from the 'native' ore nodes. Not sure if that is relevant or just coincidence.

A few minutes ago in my game I got some silicone from a fresh meteorite crash node.

Alright, I just checked this out without researching Ore Prospecting. I mined another 1000 stone and got zero ore which means you can only get ore from regular stone with ore prospecting breakthrough. If you did get Ore without it then their must have been an Ore node mixed in with the rocks you mined.

I was mining ore, and got silicon 'drops'. I've mined a lot of stone on this seed / game, but not gotten any extra resources from those, I believe.

in my opinion it is quite useless, even more than hay clothing

Yeah it’s bad…. I just gathered 2000 stone now and only got 25 ore….that dropped from 20% before to 5% now, so that is wildly inconsistent and definitely not worth a breakthrough spot.
