Desert air is extremely dry, and that lack of humidity lets deserts quickly heat up, but also rapidly cool when the sun has gone down.
We wanted to reflect that in the Desertum environment, hence the cold nights!
Desert is the hardest map to start in.
Jungle the easiest.
The synthetic vest gives an increase in heat that can be tolerated by the survivors; the other synthetic garments don't provide any increase either in heat or cold tolerance. Heat-tolerant clothing items are easy to make: straw hats, T-shirts, summer pants, summer shoes. Cold-tolerant clothing includes beanies & fur hats, sweaters, thermal pants, boots.
A full set of synthetic and a t-shirt will provide heat tolerance of up to 48c degree and cold tolerance down to -17c. It is more than enough for desert fluctuation, it isn't extreme cold or extreme heat, just frequent fluctuation to deal with. Vest and t-shirt can get you through the heatwave. Btw, vest is a outer wear.
By the time you get synthetic, you probably already got a roof over your head thus working under the roof most of the time, that's a few degree down. You can sleep without air-con as well.
I played insane on desert so I know.
