Any way to change/improve gravel soil type?

I've tried the soil floor trick and I've even planted both synthplants and mulchplants on different gravel patches but they haven't turned to either sand or loam (or anything else for that matter) in multiple game years

synthplants drain soil. You mean giant grass ?

Don't quote me on this but i think Mulchtube restores drained soil up to the level it was before while Giant grass can restore it beyond that ? I never followed the discussion about it as i can settle for 50% soil quality

I think you have to harvest the mulchtube regularly, which is very inefficient.

Tried all that (mulchtube/giant grass). Find it a waste of time. Toxic ash comes and you gotta remove/redo all that farming zones again.
Better to just find a nice patch of silt/loam for energy crystals. Grow just 1 field to have enough to be comfortable. Then later, your tech level should be high enough to farm energy crystals with hydroponics.
The former field that got turned into sand is not wasted. Good for growing trees or bushes or antibiotics or syrup.

You have to harvest the stuff, just growing it doesnt restore the soil. the giant grass seems to work the quickest as it grows quicker.
