Future proofing the game?
The news about the paradox takeover has a very mixed response from the community. We don't know what the future holds, but I'm a 'hope for the best, prepare for the worst' type so looking for a way to freeze/archive the current version. Like many games, it is possible to copy the install folder outside of steam's influence and run the game from there. Steam won't touch it so you can continue with that version (at least I had no issues for some admittedly short play sessions).

So, I think the game part is solved. But what about mods? I only use a few, but one I consider a must have, the Camera Options mod. The other few are just nice to have (like terrain recovery). The mods are all workshop based, and as far as I know, the steam version only uses mods installed to the workshop/content folder. Also AFAIK, if the game is set to only update on launch, then the mods will not be updated if I run the game from the game copy, but I'd like something a little more mistake proof.

There are mods on nexus, but it looks like they are all for the epic version of the game, and require an epic enabler. Would something like this be possible for the steam version? Or is there some other way to ensure the mods I want continue to work?

Edit: Like I said, I am hoping for the best. DLCs that add new game modes, new features would be exciting. But I do have the same concerns voiced by others.

I own many PDox titles. Half of them were indy titles that were bought up and DLCed to death.

PDox's own titles are very good.

Just my opinion.
Prophets of doom.

The internet is full of trolls want to predict "the end of..." just so they can argue as some twisted form of entertainment. Bethesda has been infested with them for years.

The ironic thing is they never admit to being wrong on their predictions and they are always right in line for their pre-order.

In the end it does not matter what developers and publishers do because someone is always going to whine, complain, and give out the predictions of doom. Which usually causes them to take the choice that satisfies the bigger portion of demographics.
