idky drones can't open and close them or turn them on and off.. tbh i wish we the player could have more control over some of the things in this game like turning things on or off or opening and closing things etc simple lil things like that other than placing things to get built and stuff
Also, windows don't use any form of fuel/energy to let light in during the day.
Yes, aesthetically, windows are good things, I mean, would you want to work in a room for 8 hours of the day without a single window in it?
Some may like the bunker lifestyle, I prefer windows :)
Also, with the best building materials, like Carbon floors, walls and ceilings, you'll find just one wood burner heater, a fire place and a single electric heater will keep a large room nice and toasty, even during a very cold snap, with a few windows here and there.
I think it affects happiness.
I once had a survivor move around in a building with no windows and I think he got a "troglodyte" debuff, even though he only stayed a few seconds.
That said, I don't know if he got this effect because of the lack of windows, or simply the lack of light
Would have been the cave dweller debuff, when they walk around rooms without any light.
I only really use windows as a light source early/mid game, in autumn/winter/toxic ash I close them all and switch to torches.
I keep that up until I have enough metal to spare to repair ceiling lights then I usually get rid of all the windows/torches in my main buildings, I only start adding them back in for decoration once I am certain my air defenses are taken care of.
Other than that I mostly use windows as a relatively safe spot for survivors to shoot out of in a building/anti flier bunker overlooking my killzone.
With the right clothing, no heating/cooling is needed. So that makes opening/closing windows unnecessary.
In fact, in my games, I take this one step further. walls and doors are not needed. Only individual spacious bedrooms get INTERIOR walls and doors. There are no outside walls. My base is usually bedrooms upstairs and work/relax/food area downstairs. The entire building has no outside walls. People come and go from any direction as they please. They can enter their bedrooms upstairs via stairs, elevator or simply throwing up a magical pocket ladder and climbing directly into their own rooms.
More efficient.
PS: OK I admit the downstairs area has a 1-tile wall by the relaxation area. I needed that to hang a dartboard LOL.
