1 - I just draft mine into a group, move so they attack the edge, only a few come at a time.
then I'll move a little closer so they attack a few more.
But much better than waiting for attacks as they have enough brains to attack the fence than go through an open gate and trigger traps.....
3 - What do you mean farm and all hell breaks loose?
I've had 6 farm plots since as early as I could to keep a large supply of food, grain, silicon & the purple leather plant
4 - How long do you make them sleep for?
MAP NET-SAMPLE?
Also, The techtree is not the same all the time, there is a little bit of RNG in there. My first completed playthrough, I did not get any of the upgraded versions of Wind turbines or solar panels. Dont bet on it that you get it in your new playthrough.
-As soon as you lay a plot you have visitors. farms attract wild life and they will eat your food later bugs.
- use the scheduler its in the list of option beside the task manager.
- Net-sample is the map seed of my screen shot.
I've got them sleeping 8 hours & 3 hours of anything time
Yeah that is how i do mine. they have 3 hours to walk around and relax. That base and all the stuff is due to my lil PSYCHO Ken. Look at how much metal i got. 2.7 k and look at all the stuff i built with the metal. not including the turrets that are off screen... that lil PSYCHO is rather good. Keep him scavenging and send someone to pick up his drops so he can keep doing it.

Also to add to tips
Advanced Research bench is in fact not for advances research apparently. Just got it down and still nothing new to research.
have 2 people set to handle. I switched to electric furnace. I Had 4 stone ones. stone ones are a lot of work
Get grain going ASAP, you'll need tons of it eventually to keep fuel, food, carbon supplies going. If you don't see a grain plant to observe close to your crash site, consider restarting with a new seed. This also tells you if the soil nearby is good enough to consider staying there.
I can't imagine playing without Vivian & Ken. Both are so essential in the current state of the game.
Just ignore it. Set it to anything for everyone all the time and it's easier and my folk are so much happier. So much happier.
Do they still work a lot?
Or be lazy?
Emelins cooking Buff, gives a other 18 points of happyness each meal on top of the buffs you already getting, making in my group even Rakha a cheerful person who is loved by even Ken..
If you get Yokko by change in a expedition as 5th member, like i have, She (Grandmother of Ken) loves crafting, and she like ken, adores killing, and gets happy,.
Emelins cooking buff is amazing.
Now if I could get them dressed before winter.
I was obsessed with clothing too... but i found out, only Ken needed winter clothing, as i send him out a lot on killing nests, hunting, eradicating threats, and expeditions, and in the wild, there are not much spots to warm him up.
But i give them 3 rest hours spread over the day (after sleep breakfast, Midday for lunch, and end of working day for dinner) so they can eat and warm them self in my dining hall, what seems more as enough to keep them happy during the winter cold, combined with Emelins cooking, and good heating.
You'd have to set it up so everything they do to relax is in the center of a large base so they can't wander too far.
Funny, i just did that, my base is in the middle, surrounded by fields and fences on one side and a huge lake on the other side, a mountain in the rear, and all vertile land where most crops grow 100%, and i hardly have NPC's wander off as they only can go 2 ways effectively.
Guess by accident i settled on the perfect spot..
