ridiculous chance of getting new survivors
just wanna have a game with a lot...lot...lot survivors in my team
and i keep save & loading for all expedition events for new survivors.

i feel that the chance of getting a new survivors in some events are just ridiculous.
i have just finished the Security Signal after loading 150 times before i get the new survivors, i spent 5 hours on it.
im now working on the Burning Cruise Vessel event, loading 30 times now and keep working....

this chance of getting new survivors is understandable in some pay to win games,
but just ridiculous, and annoying in a single player game.

do the developer expecting there is any player will play their game 150 times during their life time?
so you are developing an event, which most players just wont encounter???

Are you playing a seed that guarantees at least one walk in? I got that achievement on my second play through without save scumming. Used one of the seeds listed in the thread concerning seeds. Got a walk on with two weeks and if I recall another one in the beginning of year two. Got the others by doing the exploration.
Are you trying to do the expeditions at different times of the day? Some say that going out in the morning improves chances. I think I did all mine right after my people ate.

Play CALM-TUNE. You get one walk in around day 7 and if you send someone like Ken or survivors with 5 physical or higher to new expedition alerts, you increase your chances of adding survivors. Had 9 on my last run before the end of year 2.

I can confirm. Have played this seed a lot and I once had 10 survivors -- I did a lot of 'save-scumming' to get the desired expedition results though.

How did you do your reloading? I have the same event and I have a save just before the pop up to search for someone, that didn't work for about half an hour same thing with just having thick smoke. I have an auto save before i sent someone out. But I don't know when the game "rolls" to see which result you get. Just asking to see what the best method for trying over and over is.

i havent played this game for awhile so i have no idea is there anything changed.
in case this "rolls" havent changed, you need to have a 2 seconds intervals (15 minutes in game time) between 2 trials to make a different.

this is exactly what i did after i encounter an event.
1. Send a survivor to "Stand" somewhere near the balloon.
2. Save Game.
3. send the survivor to use the ballon.
***in case its not a new survivor
4. Load Game.
5. Wait for 2 seconds.
6. Send the Survivor out again.
*** in case its not a new survivor
7. Load Game
8. Wait for 4 seconds.
9. Send the survivor out again.
*******

after sending out 15 times times and its not a survivor
10. Load Game
11. Wait for 60 seconds.
12. Remember the in-game time... lets say 7AM in the morning
13. send the survivor out again
14. in case its not a new survivor
15. Load Game,
16. let the game run until 7AM in the morning8
17. Save Game.
and loop again...so u dont need to wait for over 1 minute

since the chance is really too low, it approximately takes like 5-6 hours in REAL TIME non-stop save&loading to get a new survivor.

I play with a mod, project-X, it's in the workshop. With that mod you can spawn in new survivors, have 28 survivors atm.

I hope that the developers consider increasing the chances of getting new survivors, or at least the option of increasing the chances of getting more survivors.

Why are there smoke signals on the horizon if theres no-one there making them when I go there immediately? That just seems like a deliberate ruse to annoy the player.

It definitely feels like the chances of finding a survivor need to be increased - especially on expeditions that specifically point to a strong chance of a survivor. Playing the RNG wheel (save-scumming) is not fun in any game.

I don't seem to have a problem with getting new survivors. I am just starting into my 4th year. It took me a little over 1 year to build a balloon. I have picked up 3 new survivors in 3 years. I picked up 1. Then sent 1 original survivor home, he had serious cirrhosis so I sent him off after researching orbital satellites. Then I picked up 2 more during the next couple of years. The last one at about 3 3/4 years.

Sobrius
Crash landing
medium
Blue-Test
playtime now 45 hrs.

My first play through. Its been a pretty good seed with lots of just about everything. Game play has been real easy.

I think that who you send on the expeditions has a bearing upon whether you find a new survivor or not. I got the smoke signals expedition come up and I kept sending Katina again and again (save-scumming) because she had the highest Physical skill, but she always came back empty handed. Then I decided one time to try sending Ember instead for her high Combat skill and she found a new survivor on the very first try.

So if you get the smoke signals expedition come up, try sending someone with high Combat skill and see if that helps.

Interesting thought. I was also using Ember when I found my new survivors.

She's the one who has found both of my expedition survivors so far as well.

She is special ops, so it would actually make sense that she'd have more luck at that kind of thing (tracking, rescuing etc). Could it be that the devs actually programmed this in deliberately? :steamhappy:

For anyone wanting a scenario with high chance of finding survivors, I suggest playing the crash landing seed CALM-TUNE. I've had 2 walk-ins by start of year 2 and 2 additional survivors from sending Ember out on expeditions.

It's a shame that the seeds and the survivor capabilities seem to be so set and predictable when it comes to finding survivors and getting walk-ons. It takes a bit of the fun out of the game when you realize that you've chosen the wrong starting seed or team at the outset and your fate is sealed.
