I have done a few of these and it only wasted time and fuel to complete.

Anyone have different results?

Ive gotten this a few times, here are the results I found:

1) Its a piece of starship debris. Common. Will net you some Scrap Metal.
2) Its a genuine meteorite. Common. Will net you some raw Ore.
3) Its an alien nest, loosely implied to be Shrieker in origin. Rarer, unclear on how much so. I didnt get anything from it, but I did not observe a Shrieker Nest at that point, so that may change the outcome. I am actually on here looking for any answers on this variant of the event.
*4) A smooth shiny meteorite. Your explorer keeps it as a momento. Seems to do nothing, though this might become a plot thread later, something feels odd about the event.

Given the other replies, its safe to assume theres significantly more rare shooting star event variants out there.

I stopped bothering with it, even a survivor with high physical was only bringing me back 40 ore, waste of time and fuel.

One of my peeps had once become "Chosen of the stars".
It was a +20 or 30 something boost to happiness that was noice.

So I am thinking of all the awesome weapons I might have gotten from that crate.

I think everyone above just was not as lucky with the Random Roll Gods (this was just my first time taking the expedition) and implying that the only drop is Scrap Metal, which is often the only "A Shooting Star" Google search result from this discussion board or any of the fan-created sites, is completely misleading and a poor data set size effort to state the the supposed result(s) for the mission

I think I got poisonous gas from that once.

Most recently was 20 ore, but since I hadn't observed interesting rock yet, it gave me that observation for free.
