Best way to improve crafting?

Is it cloth? When you get a late arrival and you really want them to learn crafting I find it sometimes hard to actually know how to accomplish that. Just got one end of first winter and I really want the character to be crafting but everything doesn´t really add much.

i think bandages give the most xp per hour but need crafting skill 3

edit i wanted to write first aid kids not bandages

Get them making clothing. For construction make fences or traps.
