Someone mentioned Dawn of Man in another thread here, and that reminded me of how I thought this game reminded me of that, when I first started playing Stranded.

It has many of the same mechanics, but in a completely different environment, of course.

Surviving Mars (also developed by Haemimont Games) has a little bit of exploring, but it is more builder than anything else. There are end game scenarios that spice up the games.

They are Billions is a builder / tower defense, but it is much more intense. Fun, but definitely a challenge, and not a game for slowly building up a base or colony.
