Air Conditioning
I'm in first Desertum-Game and this is the first time that I build an air conditioning, when I got the first night/day cycles jumping betwenn -10 and +30 °C. But it behave unpredictable.

My experience with heaters was simple: The room gets hotter, if you have not enough heaters or all windows open, then the temperature around the heater get's up and become colder and colder in the distance. I would expect similar for ACs.

But... after starting it made what it have to do: The room becomes warmer. Unexpected it became all the same temperatur in the whole room (like 2° when it was outside -8 or so), while the windows were open. Now, one day later, inside and outside are no difference. Sometimes it seems that smoke came out of the machine. But I get no error message.

Could it be, that the AC is overworked and strikes (one AC for a 10x10 room, I had not the goal to reach a comfortable temp, only to get out of freezing)?

Another thing I noticed before: It's the first time I build a stone room (no roof, just ceiling to stand up and shoot). When it becomes cold, it seems that inside the stone room it became codler than outside. For a stone building not strange, but as I did not found a notice of something like that I would not have guessed such "temperature simulation" is part of the game.

Does anyone knows more? Or is everyone using AC just as fridgy? ;-)

The "smoke" coming from the AC on the outside means it's in use. I think standard the AC is set to 23-24 degrees Celcius ? You can adjust it for each AC. A 10x10 room is quite big for just one AC i think. So with standard settings it won't reach that temperature but will still raise the temperature as much as it can to compensate.

I don't know about temperature differences for stone buildings.

I tend to make "walk in freezers. with 4 rows of shelves in them, which usually make the room something like 7x8 I use 2 AC's for that set at -10... If there is a heatwave during summer, 2 is needed to maintain the temperature.

Brick and concrete buildings should be able to maintain temperature better afaik.

I make freezer rooms too, even use it to store the prepared food in a section of the shelves near the door. I don't make many different food anyways.

On Desertum and Sobrius two AC's will do just fine for such a room. On Saltu with heatwaves jotting up the temperature outside to 54 degrees Celcius a few extra AC's on a powerswitch would be handy.

I rarely use air conditioning in any playthrough. Usually by the time I can afford it, I already have people wearing armor and then they don't care as much about the house temperature. Clothing is always more important than indoor temperature. For a heatwave, give them straw hats.

Before they get armor, I make them sleep in the coldest part of the morning and make sure each bed is within a square or two of a heat source. For heatwaves, I turn the heat off.

I use the ac units all the time, 10x10 is too big for just one, I would put at least 2. I usually do 5x5 rooms for my people, and 1 is enough for that space. I do 4-6 for my 20x20 freezer rooms.

Hey guys, thanks for the answers!

I played meanwhile a couple days, and after the first up and down the AC is now doing it's job: raising the temperature if it's cold, lowering if it's hot. The one seems enough for 10x10-room, not to reach the designated temperature but to keep the temperature in a comfortable range where the survivors and where they do not get a cold.
Maybe the AC needs some starting time to "boot up" correctly.

There is a mod for "Temperature overlay" which can prove useful in such situations to visualize the temperature.

I have no experiences with mods - is there something to do to start the mod? I took an "abonement" to it and steam downloaded something, but ingame nothing happens.

Go to Mod Manager after you started up the game.

There you can enable or disable any mod you have subscribed to.

Some mods you can adjust in the options menu during or before gameplay by selecting them in the list.

If you downloaded that temperature overlay mod, you also need to subscribe to another mod.
