Bug or Feature
I've noticed this several times; Survivors removing (storing) items from the Soldering Bench. I have 1 CPU Requested, and a number of Electronics Queued Up. One Survivor should be Crafting (but it's a priority 3), so they will get pulled away on a Priority 1 or 2, then someone will come along, and removed the Resources, and put them back on the Shelf.

The only connection I can see is that the 2 resources (Metal Alloy and Silicon) have not reached their Max Storage Amount... but I hope that's not what's causing this; because when the Survivor charged with Crafting returns they have to go and get the supplies again.

So... any idea what's going on?

Advanced Thanx

Survivor One says, "I'm going to make a CPU now," and gets the stuff. But for some reason the game runs a check before crafting actually starts and then Survivor One suddenly realizes that it's more important to put two sticks in a torch on the other side of the base. Then Survivor Two, with a high deliver priority, walks by and says, "Who left this stuff sitting here for no reason?" and they put it back on the shelf.

Not sure if it's a bug or a feature but it is an inconvenience. Seems like they shouldn't be running a priority check between gathering materials and crafting, but they do.

They have to run priority checks constantly in case a life threatening situation arises like having to heal someone. If you notice that another activity is interrupting another the best option is to raise the priority of the one you dont want interrupting. So for example...do you really need your crafter set to a higher Handling priority?

I get the various priorities... which makes sense... and I like them; However... Picking stuff up off the Ground, and putting it where it belongs, isn't the same has taking stuff off a Work Station. I actually have everyone as a Priority 1 for Handling and Transporting. (Except for the Doc (Healing) and the Cook (Meal Prep) where their Priority 1 is Heal and Cook, with Priority 2 being Handle and Transport).

But the point being; if someone deliver items to a Work Station; those items shouldn't be restocked; unless, of course, there was a change to the Production list of the item.

But All-in-All... I'm just glad it's not Just Me :) LoL

It's a stupid miss on the dev's part and is now a well-known but will never be fixed bug. There is no workaround. Your delivery drones will sweep parts in use off crafting tables SOMETIMES leading to having the job be restarted from 0%. Very, very annoying.
BioFringe Mar 5, 2024 @ 1:54pm
Oh, I agree with you no doubt. Just sharing how I deal with it.
Flin Fredstone Mar 5, 2024 @ 7:46pm
So long as the crafting task has not started those resources on the table are free for all.
Assignment checks happen all the time and when no one has crafting that item in his queue someone or something with delivery can get the task to move it to the designated storage.
Next check when someone has a free slot in the queue it can be that one gets the task to craft that item again and will go get the resources.
If only the one doing the crafting does a nanosecond of crafting with those resources then it's locked to the table. Only when another crafting task gets priority on the table will the original task be put in storage as unfinished and then collected again to be continued.

Sorry Flin, sounds like you're saying there is no "crafting restarts at 0%" bug but I see it like all the time. Crafting in progress, even past 50%. The crafter stops to do something else. The workbench status will be "Awaiting worker". When this bug happens (its random), the status will switch to "Awaiting materials" and the job needs to be restarted at 0%.

I'm just guessing... but I'm guessing that it starts "Technically" at 0%, but that's due to no resources being at the Table. However... if they Pick Up the UnFinished Item, then they will pick up from X% where they (or another) Left off.

Again... I'm just Guessing. I haven't played long enough to Know... or to have seen this occur.

Oh... and as an Add-On.... while this can occur (Resources being Put Away)... it's a Minor Annoyance at best; this game IMHO has Far Far Far Too Many Awesome Features to even notice an Annoyance like this.

I'm a Massive Lover of Survival Games... the kind where you spend all your time Grinding for Resources; so this game is Directly in the Middle of my BallPark. An I am sooo Loving all of the features. The ability to to stack items on Individual Shelves, to stack everything together like a Clutter Closet or to Organize it with A Place of every Item, and Item for Every place.

I have a whole Field of Hay... and a Large Shelter to Store the Hay; but I have a Small spot near my Crafting Bench where we Stack Hay 'First' for quick access for making cloth.

Seriously... How many games allow you to Micro-Manage at such a Level. So what if someone keeps putting your supplies back... just grab the Last Ale when you see them coming in at the end of the day; the look on their face will make it all worth while. :D

@Stimpacker.
Sorry it was a response to the OP.

Yep, the 0% bug definitely exists. Seen it myself several times. I just shake my head, laugh it off and let them start all over. Doesn't happen much but it can be frustrating when it does.

The 0% bug doesn't occur often enough to spoil the game EXCEPT when I played Military Outpost on Insane/Chaos WITHOUT Printed Components breakthrough. You need a ton of electronics, cpu cores, power cells, material fabricators, mech cores crafted MANUALLY. I had 3 soldering benches running full time with 3 level 10 crafters set to do just that and nothing else. It was then that this bug became very annoying.

Indeed. I read your rage post about it awhile back. I started only accepting seeds with Printed Materials as a Breakthrough because of it. It was posted just as I was about to start the Military Outpost for the first time.

Yea, that was a rage post, haha.
I must stress that only Military - Insane Chaos that it got bad, simply due to the amount of needed defenses, followed by the obvious need for the amount of electrical generation and batteries to support such defenses. I didn't fail the game, did well actually, but at Year 3, it was clear that the end is far away, even with 3.5 survivors dedicated to soldering benches full time. I could have finished the mission with less defenses, but it wasn't my first Military-Insane and I wanted a nice base that could survive attacks with minimal repairs.

Good luck with your Military Outpost. Maybe we can compare notes when you're done. It's my favorite scenario. You literally start fast and furious. A lot of research is done and the bugs come hard and strong. Trading Outpost is my 2nd fav for offering longer gameplay but it's more relaxing.
