Scrap and iron ore shortage solutions?
I play on max dificulty settings and an issue that I tend to have is shortage of iron scraps and ore.
I pick Ken, logicaly, as he became crucial because of these shortages, but even he can not cover the needs if the odds are bad.

In current game I already scavenged+salvaged apx. 13 wrecks and I am not joking here, I keep getting stupid boots and cloth most of the time. Have q. 1.1k of cloth with farms blocked at 500, 8 survivors - all with synth booots and another 26 in storage without even knowing how to build synth armor. Ocassionaly those HUGE wrecks give me 50 scraps and I go WTF?
There are no ore veins within apx 1 km of the camp (were like 5 altogether from start)
My only option now is to constantly send Ken on expeditions and hope he does not get "super lucky" and find clothing, textile, guns or other junk instead of scrap metal or ore.

Is there any way I can logicaly resolve this issue or is my only option to prey to the ultra id...otic and uncreative principles of RNG that I get a meteor rain, wreck or expedition that turns into the metals I need?

I hate when people choose the dumb path of RNG - its so low. Like giving up and going the easy irational way.

I am sorry for sounding hatefull and similar, I am just so pissed of not having amy option for a leaders choice solution and just hope that destiny gives me a smile....

So is there any way to get the metals other than RNG/luck based events when there are no ore deposits nor other guaranteed sources?

Expeditions are the main source of scrap metal after very early scavenging. Most of them has option to collect scrap and with good physical stat you can have 60-80 scrap per day. It consume fuel only and fuel is a renewable resource.

I bring 200 scrap per trip if scrap triggers as the found resource (hate the randomnes). Like you know your camp needs scrap, you arive on a place of fallen space debris, BUT you bring home a pike... Dumb droid. Its so stupid.

When you get finaly lucky, you bring it home, convert to steel, do repairs and auddenly you dont have enough even for one extra turret, not to mention a robot.

Yes, thats a good option. I am just not into mods, it kinda feels like cheating. Same as people picking perfect seeds - whats the point of playing then, when you keep adjusting the game for an easy playthrough. Would prefer a native / vanila option, but since there is not any. Its either the mods or painfull grind. Gonna take the grind for now 😁. What can I say, i dont like cheating, even if its improving a dumb game logic. Will keep this mod in mind though. Thank you.

The developers added modding way back in early access. I personally railed against it as i thought that is an easy way to let modders fix what you neglect to put in the game.
But i have taken a more lenient stance on mods recently.
This mod especially is helpful for the late game when you aren't really playing for the scenario goal asap but want a lasting settlement for many years.

Edit: and also the plants mod i linked you in another post for instance, or similar ones.
They don't make you Uber, they just decorate the game.

Agreed, will propably turn to it if the game becomes completely unmanageable simply because of dumb RNG triggerring boots everywhere. 😆

This is exactly why I won't buy another game from this developer. Mods are to enhance a game - not to fix what is broken that devs should have done so before the game left early access. There are so many glaring script issues. I don't play with mods period - always some issue with using them esp. if after updates. This game has great potential if properly fixed, now I tolerate by micro-managing everything but limiting my survivors to 6 or so.

OK, back to this, yes, at max difficulty, scrap is crucial. I know Flin uses the mod to get 6K scrap, haha. If the OP has Ken, scrap shouldn't be a problem after early game - as you said yourself, Ken brings 200 scrap back from expeditions. It's just the early game that things are shaky. If the map has enough nearby wrecks, that should be ok.

Issue is that I am getting all kinds of junk instead of scrap. At minimum salvage should allways return scrap not, junk. So even after salvaging several wrecks, I am barelz getting any scrap.

Taming animal that make rocks + ore breakthrough is the only ',infinit'' way. But you don t get many...

There are other "infinite" ways without using mods.
1) Military scenario with the Material Fabricator.
2) Trade Outpost scenario and you can buy metal from colony ships and later material fab technology.

nope, thats another situation. its about the stranded scenario. No social/military assistance possible :-D

The first scenario is in fact the only one with iron shortage...

They should just add a couple of infinite deposits of stone and metal ore in form of huge rock formations that you can mine into. Make mining slow so that the mining skill and perks become important for efficient resource gathering. Do something similar for scrap, with a couple of giant space wrecks on map that you could scrap with no limits. Make those changes a game rule that you can enable or not depending what kind of scenario you want to play.

@Stimpacker

That is not how i got 6k scrap hahaha.
To make it worse i had over 10k scrap at some point. Once i have a good amount of harvester bots i remove mining and scavenging from the survivors and the bots will do those things.
I just check the map for any and all debris and set them to scavenge. The droids will get to it when their queue lets them.

Could you post the seed, in case any one else wants to test it and see if they also experience the same resource issue? I'd be curious about whether this is a balance issue with the highest difficulty level.
