Surgical Beds: Am I missing Something?
I have a surgical bed for each survivor (assigned), all stocked with medkits. Yet when injured, they all insist on going to their normal beds at lay there instead. Is there some forced choice somewhere that I'm missing, or is this just more garbage AI that this game seems to be plagued with?

Note: I like the game, but let's be honest - the AI is atrocious at times.

I am not sure, but perhaps your survivors have a high priority in healing and that makes hurt people lay in bed waiting for treatment ?

I don't know about high Priority; I have one surgical bed (shared) and two of my survivors have a "1" priority for healing. They tend to use the surgical bed whenever they can.

One thing you might check is whether or not the beds have enough power to function? I believe they use 20-30 power each, so if the turrets are blazing and the batteries run out of power, they may stop using the beds if the power cuts out.

I am wondering about it as well. I have one for hope so it's loaded with spare parts and assigned to her. I built one bed to have for humans with first aid kits.
When one is injured bad and close to the surgical bed they will go to it if not occupied. If they are far away then I have to direct them there.

Not really sure how to prioritize the surgical bed for injuries. Not sure if having assigned beds to sleep on can affect it or not.

I keep my bases running 2x available vs. consumed, so power is never an issue.

Same setup and scenario, but the issue has applied in every scenario. Every survivor + Hope have their own regular and med beds assigned. Anytime they're injured same result no matter where they are. They'll literally walk past my infirmary building to go to their regular beds. It's driving me absolutely nuts.

There are many stupid things (often mentioned in this forum) that are just plain annoying and really kills the fun in this game. Have to issue direct control to every idiot. The stupid behavior really takes the fun out of Insane difficulty as it then becomes all about micro-management. Things WILL get done without micro-management eventually, but you can't afford wasted time especially in early game. Probably too much to hope for a fix as these issues have been around for a long time.

I just manually tell them to use it, saves having to have another survivor drop what they are doing to go heal someone.

Yeah we can do that and sometimes I have to. The problem is that it shouldn't be that way. They should prioritize a medical bed if one is available. I wonder if you could just have medical beds assigned to them as a work around and no other bed assigned to them. Would they sleep on it if they had no other bed?

I'm wondering the same thing. May test it out later.

Tested it, nope, if they have no regular bed assigned they just sleep on the floor.

probably should keep the medical beds closest to entry points than the sleeping ones, but easy enough to pause the game if too much is happening at the same time and send them to the automaton bed

From what I've been noticing is if a survivor is hurt.. It'll go to the closest bed its allowed to and either wait for treatment or get fixed in a medical bed.. its kinda stupid really

Medical beds have a stock of med kits. 50 i think, if you have made or found those numbers.
If the medical bed is the only place where those kits are then they have no other option than to go to a medical bed i reckon.

So perhaps the use is determined by the supply of med kits ( if the injury requires a kit and not antibiotics, making sure you have no surplus stored somewhere else might be needed ?

If that's true it is asinine because then you can never have spare first aid kits anywhere.

The biggest problem I have with this is when someone has fainted and is bleeding.
Then you cannot tell them to go to the medical bed. One time out of 10's I some how got a drafted survivor to put someone that was fainted into a medical bed but I've never since been able to get them to do that.

This has got to be the worst bug of the many I've seen in the game really.
There are tons of them though the game is overall fun in spite of the many obvious QoL oversights by the developers.

If you have more than 50 medkits, then you will have spare medkits that can be used. Also, the medkits can be removed from the surgical bed. Just mark the storage of the beds as needing to be kept empty and they should be removed by your survivors or robots. You can also limit the number of slots used to 1, so that only 25 are stored there, leaving surplus medkits out on shelves or whatever other storage you are using.
