Genuine Question: Balconies blocking potential building areas
Sorry, just an honest question. I just bought the game

I am not sure what you mean.
I have build balconies once or twice, but just for decoration outside. What or how is it blocking for you ?

yes i made a balcon all around the house once and could not put the electric access to the house,
also I could not build or stock something under the balcon (i wanted to put my batteries)

Ah yes, just noticed that the build grid when you try to place something does not extend underneath a balcony. No matter how high you build the balcony.
That's a bummer indeed.

Hope the devs change this. It kinda bothers me a lot lol

It does appear to be a bit of a bug, because while I can understand not being able to place things that need to be built outside (like furnaces) this problem seems to also extend to stockpiles (which can definitely be built indoors).

I built my base pretty small (just big enough at the base for stairs and four large bedrooms and used balconies to create larger and larger upper floors and am just now noticing that the sheds and stockpiles that are now under the balconies can't be rebuilt (although they still work just fine where they were originally built).

It's odd because in my current playthrough i could build stockpiles etc underneath the balconies. I don't see that vacant placement grid anymore. I thought they added a stealth fix.

OR, it happens with mods used. Current game only has attack wave adjuster and endless expedition mod.

I found one "workaround" that feels a bit like cheating but it's your choice to use it:

place the blueprint of the barrel/furnace/oil press/other item you want under the not yet built balcony,
then place the blueprint for the balcony before those items get constructed
and your survivors will build everything.

unfortunately after that you have to remove the balcony again if you want to replace the item under the balcony. This does not work with plant-fields.

however it may be possible to avoid the problem if you build the floor higher (I am unsure because I think it has worked in past playthroughs but I am too lazy to load the save to make sure:) )
> when constructing the floor before placing the blueprint the tooltip gives you an info which keys to push to heighten/lower the floor
> each layer of height adds the basic resource cost.

I don't see the need for balconies when you can't even build a 2nd story with a roof. I wasted a hour of play finding this out the hard way. Built some lovely bedrooms then found out you couldn't bung a roof on it.

I think you need to change the level view to the top level with the + and - next to the house icon in the top right and then you can place the roof.

Oh and build the roof before you put furniture in the room below. The furniture can block your people from reaching the blocks above it.
