What's blocking the construction of my elevator?

I have a two-story house. It currently has a ladder near the front door. If I clear the square next to the ladder, against the wall, on both lower and upper floors, and try to construct an elevator, I get "blocking objects" message, but unhelpfully no indication of what the blocking objects might be. The elevator would be approachable from inside the room on both stories if it could be constructed.

There is nothing on the walls either, where the elevator is supposed to be.

Could it be the square of parquet flooring doing the blocking?

I'd appreciate any guidance before I start moving furniture etc. around again - thanks!

Yes, it's the one tile square flooring at the base of where you elevator wants to be that's blocking construction. Delete it.

To be fair, it tells you that the parquet is blocking it. I forgot that floor tile a few times and it always reminded me.

I am unable to reproduce this.
I have a two-storey building, parquete on the second floor, a ladder next to the door and a hole next to the ladder.
The "blocking objects" message doesn't pop up.
Can you upload a screenshot or submit a bug report with ctrl-f1, please.

The base of the elevator can't be placed on parquet.

Edit: it says so in the info panel anyways, but often times that is overlooked.
