Anyone have some tips for "tiered" construction?
I am building my base into a hillside, which means it's tiered, such that various parts of the building are not all at the same exact height, even when they are the same floor.

I've seen threads here where people talk about the issues with multi-level construction and staircases, and that issue is really making this building a pain in the arse to build even with it all just being single story so far, because I need those stairs to get the height for the different heights of the floors.

Anyone do something like this who can give me any tips for how to use the stairs for this and still have a ceiling?

I have not build a tiered structure on a hillside yet. But isn't elevators an option up a staggered ceiling unit ? If you get what i mean i hope.

I haven't gotten far enough to try elevators yet, though they seem to be by story. Not sure how they'll work when I just want to go from floor->same-story-different-height.

I use the teleporter mod, so the problem will go away once I can build teleport pads. But that's a ways off. I play with 50% research speed, so it takes quite a while to get to the point where those are feasible.

Forgive me if i misunderstand what you mean, but could it be something like this ?

Yes, EXACTLY like that. How do i get a ceiling over that? The game refuses to let me build one.

Edit: to clarify, the whole thing has ceilings, just not on the tile right above the top of the stairs. It won't let me build one there, for any of the stairs.

I always did ceiling first, stairs second.

Stairs have a big underground part and that prevents a ceiling, that also has a foundation part attached, to lock with the floor level.

Even when I do ceiling first, it cuts a hole in the ceiling when I build the stairs. And that hole goes all the way up, into the roof if I have a roof over it.

Stairs just simply don't seem to work indoors, at all, since the last game update. Even if you are only building one floor.

My solution has been to just not build the stairs at all, seeing as survivors go up a small height change on the same story without them. But it looks stupid. LOL

I'll go start a save ( after the latest expansion ) and build a tiered house and see if indeed indoor stairs don't work anymore

What does the ceiling look like? You didn't include that in your screenshots. Is it punching holes in it, visually? And still just letting you build a roof over it?

No hole in the roof.

As i showed in the screenshots, i build the roof first and then the stairs.
This one i took now from the inside so you can see both the stairs and the ceiling from the roof.

I held the cursor on the roof tile above the stairs.

Could you perhaps screenshot that hole in your roof ?

Hmm, i think you are trying to go up 2 levels to the next floor instead of 1 level ?
That could be the reason the roof wont snap after you placed the stairs ?

I did 2floors buildings in all my games and never had stairs go trhough roof.. no single time. And no matter if I doo all manually or as Room (roof always go last)

EDIT> If you are trying build new ceiling over existing stairs than I ahd the same issue (never with new building but with change/reconstruct)

Can sovle it samnw way as I did - build another stairs elsewhere, fnish the ceiling and roof where you need and than build stairs under it.

I just redo that building and made the back room up 2 levels in flooring.
The stairs then wont fit in the lower front room. Unless i want holes in the ceiling.

So that's my issue, the height difference is too great. I needed to step up more gradually.
I did go 2 height increments for each tier.

Thank you so much for that last response, I thought something was broken in my game because of seeing something entirely different from what you showed previously. :steamsad:

Yeah my bad, it popped up in my mind late.
