Just as an example, I have a mod that tweaks the game constant for research/observation speed, with a "faster research" and "slower research" mod flavours.
Those mods worked flawlessly before the game update. But now, with the new patch, though the mod works fine, it causes issues with save games. You can use the mod, but if you enable it or disable it, you have to start a completely new game because the game will not load saves if you change the mod mid-save. It throws a save loading error.
There's no way based on patch notes I would have been aware the mod could even have been affected by the patch. Much less catch the new save file issue.
P.S. I'm also mentioning it here because it's probably a good idea for you guys at Frontier/Haemimont Games to know, if you get reports from people who "can't load their previous saves", my mods and any others like it that touch game constants may be the reason. :)
Yes, we are aware of the broken savegame compatibility related to mods. It will be fixed in the next game update. But just to be sure that the problem is the same, could you send us a specific save and the mod name that makes it not loadable?
I don't have a save to share from that playthrough anymore. I finished it last night and I always delete all of the saves after completing a scenario. To be clear, what I"m describing is NOT an issue with the save itself being broken, but with the game not letting you load it if you enable/disable (or change) specific mods. I was able to resume and load the saves themselves just fine simply by reverting the mod state back to what it was when the save itself was made.
One of the mods that I can reproduce this with is this one. If I start a game with the mod disabled, then enable it, I can't load the in-progress save. And visa versa. But it's easy to resolve, as I said above. (Though not so easy, perhaps, to people who don't figure out what's the cause).
