When I build normally (on ground level) I can just build a roof straight onto the walls without ever using a ceiling.
I thought you only needed to put a ceiling down if you intended to build another level on top of it?
Hey Reck! You will need to first build a ceiling on the second floor, then a roof on top of it,
Yes, right, but in my current game it's not possible to put a roof on the second floor out of brick or concret, the other materials are working. And over a indoor stairs the ceiling keeps a hole up included the roof. There should be a bug. The outer walls are made of bricks, the indoor stairs too.
The strength of the material shows on the tooltip in the build menu. Brick is "very strong" while stone is only "strong" so you cannot put a brick ceiling above a stone floor, for example.
But you can build the second floor along with a ceiling and roof in one go by selecting Room in the build options in the housing tab.
Unless you prefer different build materials for the walls and roof.
One downside of a flat ceiling roof is that you need to build railing along the edges of a flat roof else people will just pull out their magical ladder to go for a walk on top.
Roofs don't require that.
