Dessert is hard...
There is juiceleaf but it's miles and miles away :-/

Weapons you can't repair. But like with clothes, if you dismantle them when they are almost gone you get resources back.
To set them to dismantle right click them in the storage area. A small icon will appear on the picture and a survivor will go dismantle it and store the resources.
You can look for Palm trees and plant those after you observed them.
But perhaps you're better of mining stone and turning it into concrete later on ?

The desert sea is pretty cool though.
No not always. Seeds like Ralesk listed have large amount of palm trees. But you only actually need just one so that you can plant your own wood supply.
Everything (synthplant, mulchtube, oasis tree, ore deposit), you name it, barrel cactus came in at the 7th expedition or so? Not like I really need it as mushrooms are plenty, but come on :D
Sure :) though I don't feel like taming in this playthrough now.
After discovering silicon deposits, nesting shriekers, nest formations and who knows what else, we finally got the juiceleaf at year 2 day 24... Man that took way too long, RNG wasn't on my side :D
Also no groves and such so far, I only have the hunting ground and the ore deposit specials on the expedition map.
Happy to hear you have a fun time in your playthrough despite the RNG.
I took the OP's "weird" map as a challenge and it definitely gives a different flavour to the game. Without a survivor with Natural Curiosity one would depend even more on what little you have nearby.
