"How to Get Mech Cores
If you want to build mechs in Stranded Alien Dawn, you must have a mech core. There are two methods, which will make getting this precious material possible:
You can find them – this option is available for all modes. You have to look for spaceship debris and scavenge them. Here is the seed, which will spawn some mech cores very close to the starting point: DUMA-KEY.
You can crate them – it is possible to construct a mech core but only in Military Outpost mode. You have to research proper technology first (it is in Power section). Mech core costs 5 CPU cores and 2 Power cells and can be created thanks to a soldering bench."
I thought what you scavenge is completely random, and not related to seed? So no guarantee of mech cores, if so.
I've seen that seed DUMA-KEY here on the forum since I started playing months ago, btw. Is it good for Desertum still, after the changes to the starting techs? I rarely care what they are anyway, though. Going to play my first game on that biome next. Not even sure which plants and such I need there yet...
The odds are that you probably won't see them both over the time span needed to win the scenario with default settings though. In my current long trading scenario, where I modded the deed to cost 25M, I got the printer technology early in year 3 and the mech core technology near the end of year 4.
...What I don't have yet is the technology to actually build mechs. I think I need to 'find' a core in the wild to unlock that, which hasn't happened.
I think so. I found a core very early (year 1) in my previous game (crash-landing), and got the research to build mechs, I think both large and small at the same time, but not 100% sure. But later I found another core, disassembled the small mech and built a large one.
It should tell you what you're missing when you want to build one ?
No info on the mod page ? Or ask the mod creator perhaps ?
ps: not sure if you can find the tech in an expedition in the other scenario.
